Bayrou or Sarkozy. Both have merits, both have faults. Both are not Royal Smiley

Sarkozy.

Royal may be the dumbest major candidate I've ever seen run for major office, even moreso than GWB.

I wouldn't go to the point of calling her dumb, but she sure has limited experience (she's 0 on foreign policy), she's a major flip-flopper, she's getting away from the PS too much, she speaks as if people were little toddlers, and some more.

My girlfriend spent a few years in France and speaks the language fluently.  I've been watching some of the French political shows and getting her to translate for me (she's interested in it too, so I'm not using her.  Tongue).

Based on her translation, it seems apparent to me that Royal's clearly not ready for prime-time and is a real zero on the intelligence front.

Of course, I'm with you.  I can look at her eyes, her tone and mannerisms without understanding what she's saying, and to me it feels like she's speaking to a bunch of 4-year olds.  Knowing some of the posters on this forum, they probably like that, however.

You know Sarkozy is probably the most pro-American candidate around, while Le Pen is not a fan of the US.

While I did pick Sarkozy, that had absolutely no effect on my vote, and I picked him despite being in favor of the EU, not because, either.

First round: Voynet
Second round: Royal

I was really into Royal until her gaffe over Quebec independence. (though I think the media here misconveyed her message)

In terms of preferential voting I'd put:

[1] Sarkozy
[2] De Villiers
[3] Le Pen
[4] Nihous
[5] Besancenot (not his policies though)
[6] Voynet
[7] Laguiller (not her policies though)
[8] Bove (not his policies though)
[9] Buffet (not her policies though)
[10] Write-in: suicide
[11] Royal
[12] Bayrou
[13] Schivardi

Royal, would be Voynet if not for fear of Le Pen, Sarkozy run-off (which isn't that likely anyway)..

I think the current scores in this poll for Sarko and Sego will be pretty close to reality...

Segolene Royal

I hate Sarkozy, just in case anybody doesn't know it yet. He's so intent on appealing to Le Pen's 2002 voters, that he's become Le Pen on every issue. If Le Pen is like a Nazi, then Sarkozy is like Mussolini.
