How would they have went in 1964 if Johnson debated Goldwater?  How would they have looked in 1968 with Nixon, Humphrey and Wallace?  How in 1972 with Nixon, McGovern and Schmitz?

By the way, I know this year has nothing to do with this topic but it's about debates.  Why did they decide to do a debate in 1960?  Did Nixon and Kennedy like the idea?  How come they didn't do it earlier with Eisenhower and Stevenson or even earlier with Truman, Dewey, Thurmond and Wallace?

There weren't national tv back in 1948? The whole tv-thing was kind of new so it isn't that strange.

64 would've made no difference
68 would've helped Humphrey, who often called for debates
72 would've made no difference, and why the hell would Schmitz be included in 72 and Wallace not in 68?

I know TV wasn't that popular back in 1948 but they maybe could've debated on the radio.  or something.

idk Humphrey wanted Debates in 1968.  Also I said that I would've included Wallace in the 1968 Debate  and I included Schmitz in 72 because he kinda did pretty good.

I didn't see Wallace included... And yes, HHH did want debates, and when Nixon refused (After his bad expirience in 1960) HHH called him "Sir Richard the Chicken Hearted". It was actually pretty effective.

I just wanted to point out that there were many political debates on radio back in the pre-TV days. There weren't any Presidential debates, but candidates in primaries often had debates.

Johnson would have bettered Goldwater in 1964.  Humphrey would have defeated Nixon and Wallace in 1968, and might have won the election.  Further, this debate would have been the most entertaining with Wallace in the mix.  I think McGovern may have helped himself out some in 1972 with a debate, but Nixon still would have won the election.
