1) Why would anyone cry?
2) What else would be be crying aside from tears?

Well I have noticed a lot of environmental haters on this forum, both Democratic and Republican.....

That's quite an overestimation of today's importance.  It's a little like a factory owner "crying in tears" on Labor Day, or something equally implausible.

Intelligent and friendly on rye bread with some mayonaise.

Burning some trees in celebration of Earth Day sounds vaguely interesting.

But seriously, why do people feel compelled to set aside specific days for the purposes of respecting something that we ought to respect all the time? I rarely bother with keeping track of random days like this; it occupies space on the calendar whilst accomplishing essentially nothing. Just be nice to the earth all the time; you don't need a bloody day to remind you. And before I forget, I highly doubt that anyone here is going to start crying because Earth Day is happening. I'm not sure why normal people would become overly sensitive about... well... Earth Day.

Well I guess I ought to take a dump in the backyard to try and fertilize the soil.  I shouldn't be long.

A rain garden?!  You live in the Pacific Northwest.  I strongly doubt you really need any more of the stuff.

Hell, I don't even know what a rain garden is.  And $1500?!  Jeez.

Basically it is a natural way of preventing storm water runoff

Even if you did noting special today, the recognition of Earth Day has had a lasting affect.  Growing up in the 60's there was little discussion of anything related to the environment. As I watch my children talk, its clear that the environment does matter, and it matters in policy whether or not one favors controls or not. I could argue that even the most severe antienvironmentalists in  Congress are way ahead of the average member from 40 years ago.

One can argue that Earth Day itself did not bring this about, and I would of course have to agree. But the effort that put Earth Day onto the calendar also moved the country significantly towards an awareness of the environment. It does remain a symbol of that effort and provides a continuing reference point for the country's environmental movement.

Well, after having three flats of flowers/seedlings die on me two weeks ago when I had to go out to Illinois, I went to the nurseries over the weekend and picked out some replacement/mature flowers to be planted.  It didn't take too long to add a little punch of color to the front of my yard.  I have a large bush that was given to me over the weekend that I need to plant as well, but I haven't decided where to put it yet.  I'm thinking of putting a sun garden in the middle of my leach field, but I need to identify where the drain lines are so I don't damage them or plant a bush where the roots might grow down and clog the drains.  Work work work . . .
