Yay for Le Pen's collapse.

France are idiots if they elect Sarkozy. How often do you get the opportunity to elect a hot President? And then if you get that and pass it up, dumb.

Tell me about it. How could they pass up Dominique Voynet?

What fools.

Let's hope that's true and that Royal doesn't somehow win. Smiley

If Bayrou had made it to the second round against either Sarkozy or Royal, would he have been assured victory?

I don't know about being assured victory but I think it would be likely.

Yes, though many of Le Pen's voters are more likely to sit out the second round than vote for Sarkozy.

Bit of a turnoff with Sarkozy - He admires America's affirmative action programs...though I doubt Royal would be closer to my opinions on that matter.

According to the BBC polls indicate that more Bayrou voters are on the right than the left. If that's the case then Royal is going to have a helluva hard time in the second round. The math just doesnt work her way.

The activists seem to be anti Sarkozy though. You also have to take into consideration the idea that some right wingers don't like Sarko both politically and personally.

Updated numbers - Sarkozy - 30.5%
                              - Royal - 25.7%

Royal apparently won Martinique - an impressive showing for a PS candidate in one of the overseas departments!

Sarkozy - 30.45%
Royal - 24.80%
Bayrou - 18.31%
Le Pen - 11.32%

Where is that coming from? It was recently updated that Sarko was at 30.5% and Royal at 25.7%.
