His presidency is nothing spectacular, but he's certainly not a hated president. Has decent approval ratings while in office. The election was somewhat close.

Is a dark horse until he wins the early primaries, locking in the nomination. Ultimately wins the election by a comfortable margin against a lackluster Republican candidate, partially due to his general likeability and his ability to come off as a moderate.

Having to deal with a Demoratic house and a Republican Senate, he works towards a compromise bill to get his primary campaign promise put into law. After going through a few changes, it is passed easily.

During his first year he has high approval ratings and manages to improve international relations. The economy does relatively well.

He easily wins the nomination to run for his second term. The Republicans field a rather strong candidate, but President James still manages to win due to his past performance.

One year into his second term there is an outbreak of anthrax. Over 3000 people die. Numerous Republicans quickly blame Al-Queda and point the finger at President James because 'it happened on his watch'. Within a week investigations reveal the anthrax was planted in packaged beef in a number of supermarkets across the country. A radical animal-rights group, later found to be an offshoot of the Animal Liberation Front, claims responsibility.

President James mobilizes the FBI and other domestic law enforcement agencies to hunt down the culprits. Many key members of the group are captured, but the group leader is still at large by the time President James' second term is over.

His popularity is significantly lower at the point of leaving office due to this, but his approval ratings are still at a decent level. His vice president wins a close race against the Republican candidate, and a few months later the terrorist leader is caught.
