As Rep. Rick Renzi's (R-AZ) "legal troubles mount, Arizona Republicans have become more pessimistic about the Congressman's predicament, while Democrats in Washington, D.C., prepare to finance a special election campaign should one become necessary," according to Roll Call.

The DCCC "has opened a special fundraising account for Arizona's 1st district and has begun raising money in the event that Renzi resigns from Congress.

I think Democrats have a big advantage.  They are already revving up their engines and have a deep bench in the district.

Plus the GOP candidates have to deal with the uncertainty of whether Renzi will resign and how long he tries to weather the contraversy before kicking their campaigns into gear.

I think State Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick is the frontrunner on the D side and for  the seat.

Personally, I'm partial to Mary Kim Titla.

Wide, not deep.

Democrats have a very varied electorate in that district, and find it hard to find a candidate that appeals to all of it.
