People should vote for Yabloko, not the KPRF. Neither have any chance of winning, but Yabloko is the saner opposition than a bunch of Stalin-lovers.

At the least the commies will win some seats in the Duma... Yabloko will pretty much win nothing.

They could hold on to some of their district seats.

Yes, and the other part of Putin's "election reform" was to turn the 5% threshold into a 7% threshold... which pretty much signed the death warrant for Yabloko and the Union of Rightest Forces.

Because 100 of those 225 districts were won by independents or teenee parties. District seats provided the best chance for the opposition to win seats if it failed the 5% (now 7%)  threshold, such as Yabloko or SPS in 2003.

Huh? Why do you think that?

I'd vote for them, as that's the only opposition to Putin with a chance.

I would vote for them, since I have a Leninist streak anyway.

The only thing that matters is three are pro-Putin and none are pro-Answering Russia's problems.

Kind of like how in our country there are two parties that are pro-business as usual and neither are pro-Answering America's problems?

I will. I just wish people would take their criticism of other countries' democracies and apply it to their own, where they actually have a voice.

Putin will win a sweeping mandate and will continue to run the country as he sees fit. The Communists will be in opposition. Vladimir Zhirinovsky and Fair Russia will have a seat at the table. The End.

they play to the electorate's fierce nationalism and anti-semitism far too much for me to have an ounce of respect for them.  although I suppose that's just following in the footsteps of post-War Stalin.

despite all that, there's nothing wrong with supporting them in such "elections" as are held now.  but I'd probably just give up and not vote anyway were I Russian, which millions actually do, I believe.

As of 4 p.m. Moscow time, turnout nationwide was 42.5 percent, up from 35.8 percent at the same time in the 2003 parliamentary election, Central Elections Commission Deputy Chairman Stanislav Vavilov said in comments broadcast on state television.

Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. First exit polls will be published at 9 p.m. Moscow time, after polls close in Russia's most westerly district, Kaliningrad, which is one hour behind Moscow. The Central Elections Commission says the vote should be mostly counted by 10 a.m. Moscow time tomorrow.

Based off of what Harry said, it looks like Parties 4, 7, and 8 get seats at the moment (plus United Russia).  Party 8 is marginal, at 7.2%.  United Russia is only at 63.5%.
