Giffords is toast.

Giffords is safe.  That district barely voted for Bush and has a large and growing Hispanic population.

Sorry, but, lets look at the facts:

First, registration advantage Republicans

Second, Prop 103 carried the district by nearly three to one.

Third, voting record of Gifford so far (301 roll call votes, she only missed one)

97% Party Line
  2% with Republicans
1% with minority of Left Wing Ds opposed by majority of Ds and Rs

Fourth, 2006 was a weird year where the Republican Congressional committee opposed the Republican nominee.  The head of the committee is gone and the committee has indicated it will not make that mistake again.

Fifth, Gabby campaigned as a moderate, but has voted like a lefty.

She's toast.

Wrong!

She pretended to favor border security, now she is fighting against border security.

She pretended to be in favor of employer sanctions, but now she opposes sanctions unless it can be proved beyond an unreasonable doubt that the system couldn't possibibly ever be wrong.

She alledged she opposed amnesty, but in fact now supports amnesty, but just doesn't want to call it that.

Oh, and BTW, she's really ticked off the active duty, reserve and retired military with her Nancy Pelosi votes.

Her Nancy Pelosi votes?  In case you don't know, this is not a far right 65% Bush district that still supports this neverending occupation.  This is a moderate district that pretty much reflects the nation as a whole, which is strongly against this war.

No one has pointed out that Gabrielle Giffords did not unseat J. D. Hayworth in 2006, she defeated the conservative anti-immigration Republican Randy Graf 54%-42%.  The previous occupant of the seat was the moderate Republican Jim Kolbe.  Giffords represents AZ-8.

Harry Mitchell represents AZ-5 and he defeated J. D. Hayworth in 2006.

You are so wrong!

Do you know anything about the district or are you just a BRTD clone.

This district is one of the most pro-military in the nation.

Ever hear of Ft. Huachuca or Davis-Monthan?

You seem to be confusing this district with Oakland, California.

If this district was so far to the right, Bush would have won it with about 65% of the vote and Randy Graf would be elected Congressman.

First, Bush is NOT popular among conservatives.

Second, the official Republican party ran ads attacking Randy Graf.

Third, Gabby pretended to be a moderate when campaigning, but here voting record has been hard core left wing.

First, Bush is NOT popular among conservatives.

His support among self-identified conservatives does tend to lag behind his support among self-identified Republicans, but I have never seen a poll where he was not easily approved of by conservatives.  Either I misremember or you're arguing over the definition of "conservative" (self-identified vs. "true conservative"), which is obviously not what Mr. Phips is referencing.

Edit: Hmm.  I checked a few polls and found several instances of <50% approval from self-identified conservatives, but they certainly are boosting his relative approval.  In any case, you're claiming that Bush didn't get 65% in this district because he isn't popular among conservatives?  I'm still pretty sure that conservatives voted overwhelmingly for Bush in 2004.

See what Alcon said.

Second, the official Republican party ran ads attacking Randy Graf.

They ran ads supporting his opponent in the primary, then ran ads supporting him in the general. How does this translate to ads attacking him?

Third, Gabby pretended to be a moderate when campaigning, but here voting record has been hard core left wing.

On what has she voted that is out of touch with the district? Despite what you might claim, stem cell research and opposition to the Iraq War are not.

Then where did those conservative votes go?  They sure as hell did not go to John Kerry, who nearly carried the district.

Probably not.  The Republican likely to run against her is State Sen. Timothy Bee and his position is almost identical to hers on immigration, so that will likely take that issue off the table.
