Important points from the PPP poll:

Bush's approval in NC: 41%-52%

Dole's approval in NC: 45%-41%

In a hypothetical matchup for President, a Democrat would beat a Republican 47%-42%.

Whoa, what?

Mentioning Bush probably poisons the waters a bit against the Republicans.

Whoa, what?

Democrats always win those polls. The media is forced to personally attack the Democrat and hold up the Republican as more charismatic and "a better person to have a beer with".

Gore and Kerry won people who voted based upon the issues on not "character" big time.

Note that party affiliation is 44% Democrat and 39% Republican.  I don't know how accurate that is.  I'm assuming it's not too far off.

That sounds right, keeping in mind strong Dixiecrat traditions and the complete state level dominance of Democrats in North Carolina.

Not a bad poll result at all. Anytime an incumbent is under 50%, that's a very good sign.

I'm not that up to date about Liddy Dole - what makes her have an approval rating below 50%?

2004 exit polls showed it at 40% Dem 39% GOP, the voter reg is 45% Dem, 35% GOP
