One of 1997 intake and one of the first MPs to 'come out' as gay.

Apparently he's a good constituency MP and has done well to hold onto South Ribble since 1997 - I know the area quite well and it doesn't have any real natural Labour heartland territory to speak of; even our best bits are marginal at best, and as well as the borough of South Ribble it includes some real Tory rural territory from West Lancs district.
