Anyone know when the results will start coming in this evening? Polls close early in Kentucky, IIRC.

Not sure when the polls close but I'm hoping that Fletcher stays below 40% (latest poll shows him at 44%). I have a feeling that we'll see a runoff here. Let's go Northup!

Polls have now closed.  Results can be found here.

It's looking pretty darn good so far for Democrats.  We may have no runoffs at all.

Kentucky is very fast in getting their results out.

The polls appear to have been really screwed up on the Dem side, unless there are some major areas for the other candidates that haven't reported yet.

Northup is beating Fletcher by nearly 2-1 in Louisville, but it doesn't look like that will be enough to take out his margins in rural Kentucky.

Anyone got a link to county results?

You can see the status of individual counties here; to see the returns, you have to bring up counties from the menu here.

Northup is really getting smashed in rural areas, often running third (and, in at least one county, receiving no votes at all).

Fletcher has risen about 2 points in the past 15 minutes.  He's not too far off 50%, and is rising still.

Jefferson County is 93.2% reported.  The state is 65.5%.

This might not be a run-off.  Good job, KYGOP.

IIRC all you need to avoid a runoff in Kentucky is 40%.

No, this WILL not be a run-off.  That only happens if no candidate gets 40% or more of the primary vote, which could only have happened in this years 3-way Republican primary if the third place candidate got more (if only just more) than 20% of the vote, which polls had consistently shown Harper running far below.

Fletcher topping 50% would only be symbolic as it would give him more of a "mandate" to lead his party to destruction at the Kentucky state level.

Okay, Llafur beat me to it, but I thought I'd post this anyway.

With Jefferson County almost all in, Fletcher's margin will only increase. An impressive primary victory for a disaster of a governor. Prepare for implosion, Kentucky GOP.

Nice to see Beshear pulling off a strong showing and probably avoiding a costly runoff, too.

Yep, this one's in the bag for Fletcher.  Might reach 52% before its over.

I guess there's still an outside shot of it being a runoff in the Dem primary, since I don't know what areas are outstanding, but I'm prepared to call it as being outside runoff territory, unless I missed something.

It does, but I'm not really the Kentucky expert around here (see Al).

I also don't know where the Dem candidates are from and where their bases of support would likely lie.

The Republican primary for State Treasurer is a real nail-biter right now.  Lonne Napier led Mellinda L. Wheeler by 3 votes out of 158,490 last I checked.  See http://electionresults.ky.gov/KyElectWeb/kes?R=D10000000&AC=3&L=1999&N=STATE%20TREASURER&RV=1022860&DV=1591091&TP=3519&TC=120&RF=0&AR=0 .

All I can do right now is look at the numbers:

Beshear has gone from 41.6% to 41.1% as the precinct count has gone up from 91% to 94%.

Does Kentucky require 40% even to avoid a runoff or can you round up?  Tongue

Counties have seemed to often have all their precincts come in at once.  Christain and Bullitt county went from not started to completed in (in Bullitt's case at least I'm pretty sure) one mouseclick where my last one had been less than a minute before).

Wow, hadn't thought of that.  I'd imagine 40% even but I couldn't say for sure.  I imagine states with a 50% threshold to avoid a runoff have it at 50% even (or just over that, although there they may say you need a majority without mentioning a percentage).
