Let's say this sorry excuse for a Senator decides to seek another term (I don't know how likely this is though). If so, let's assume that he is stuck with his current mediocre approval ratings.

Do you think a credible, more liberal challenger would emerge? Dems have gotten pretty cocky about PA recently. Though I highly doubt that they'll be feeling that way much longer, let's assume the left feels that a more liberal candidate would be able to win in November.

So...

Does a credible, liberal challenger run?
Does he or she have a good shot at beating Casey?/Does he or she win?
Assuming Casey survives the primary, how likely is he to win the General?

Casey will win and it's very unlikely he'll get a challenger. Only 4 incumbent Senators have lost the primary since 1980. It's not common.

He will win it easily and win reelection.

Do we really, seriously think Casey will even be around in the U.S. Senate in 2012?

I say he runs for Governor in 2010.

Way too early to tell.  If the Dems do very well in PA in 2008 and 2010 and their is either a very popular Democratic President that looks like they will win in a landslide or a very unpopular Republican about to lose in a landslide its a possibility.  However, not only does all of that have to happen, but also only if Casey finds himself voting against the Dems on key issues or causes a real stir and Casey seems a bit too low key to do that.

I think he will, too, but a lot of people are saying that he's going to wait. Either way, Casey might just decide not to run for re-election to the Senate because he doesn't want to be there anyway.

As much as I want so badly to see Casey fall and the installment of a leftist democratic candidate in 2012, I just dont see a way that it happens. Unfortunately, Hoeffel will have been out of the loop for far too long at that point. Sad

Eh, it's too early to tell what the hell is going to happen with him. He's served less than half a year, I'll wait till 2009-2010 to try and figure what will happen with him.

Well, not if he wins his race for Montco Commissioner (which he likely will).
