Your top 5 favorite politicians from your own state (please talk about people who aren't just personal friends)

For me:

1. Steve Lonegan (R-Mayor of Bogota)
Most of the time a mayor would be someone minor would not make the list.  But perhaps Mr. Lonegan has become the most well-known mayor in all of NJ (except Cory Booker).  He fight against the Mexican invasion and his overcoming becoming blind are inspiring.

2. Dick Codey (D-Fmr. Governor and St. Sen. Pres)
Codey steps in when Corzine goes on his little adventures and took over after the "gay American" had to step down.  He has done a wonderful job but was pushed out by the Democratic machine in favor of Corzine in 2005.

3. Chris Christie (R-US Atty)
Christie has ruled a 2008 run for the senate but remains to be one of the best candidates for them and I hope he will run soon.  He is a fair prosecutor and a good one, so good in fact Corzine even reached into his office to find a new AG

4. Cory Booker (D-Mayor of Newark)
Booker is inspiring, refusing to live in the mayor's mansion and wanting to live out in the most dangerous neighborhood.  A bright young star in the Democratic party.

5. Bret Schundler (R-Fmr. Mayor of Jersey City)
Idk, I just like the guy

My personal favorite is Joe Hoeffel, a sharp, friendly man who has sacrificed alot for his party, including bowing out of a race.

I also like Chaka Fattah's hair. Cheesy

3. Gene Taylor (D, MS-4 Rep)
2. Ronnie Musgrove (D, former gov)
1. Jim Hood (D, AG)

1. Rush Holt (Representative, NJ-12)
2. Dick Codey (State Senate President, former Governor)
3. Cory Booker (Mayor of Newark)

They all happen to be Democrats. I would include Republican former Governor Tom Kean, Sr., but he's retired from politics.

1. L. Brooks Patterson - Oakland County Executive who said that the Detroit City Council belongs in the zoo!  Go Brooks!

2. Ed Clemente - My state house Rep. (D) - he's really a republican, but has to run as a Dem. to get elected.

3. Dick DeVos - He never should've lost

4. Mitt Romney - I don't care that he's a Mormon - he's now pro-life.

5. Mike Cox - a GREAT Attorney General!  Good at fighting internet crime (child porn, etc... - which is my passion)

5-Governor Jennifer Granholm- A great Governor with even greater ideas. Unfortunately, she has to fight tooth and nail with the republican legislators who like to criticize but have no ideas of their own.

4-Congressman Bart Stupak-I think he is one of the few who actually care about michigan.

3-Lt. Governor John Cherry-a real down-to-earth guy who people can to relate to.

2-Congressman Dale Kildee

1-State Senator Jim Barcia-BEST MAN EVER!!

Pretty funny how similar our lists are.  I guess that's because there are probably <10 good politicians in the state of NJ

5 - Bob Macleod (D): Has been OK as thurston county commissioner, though the main reason he is on here is that he beat Kevin O'Sulivan, who is probably one of the most annoying politicians out there (only second to Tim Sheldon... ARG!)
4 - Patty Murray (D): Represents the state as a whole pretty well, definitely one of my overall favorite senators.
3 - Brian Baird (D): Doesn't fall prey to party politics all the time and is big on fighting meth and global warming (two important issues to me)
2 - Sam Reed (R): As secretary of state he has been amazing, he refused to get caught up in the trappings of the party system, especially during the crazy 2004 governor election.
1 - Chris Gregoire (D): Her ideas have been pretty good, and the state has run very smoothly under her guidance; a very pro-active governor.

I probably would have more republicans but since last years election the number in Washington has dwindled/plummeted

I thought about including local politicians, but no one would know who I was talking about if I said Scott Reddin, my City Councilman, for example.

Codey and Booker are the best high-profile politicians statewide, but there are plenty of decent politicians I don't know much about. It just so happens that the mayor of the largest city and the State Senate President are the most prominent of the New Jersey Reform Democrats.

Charlie Rangel is cool.  Nadler and Ackerman are decent also, although the latter is a Zionist and voted to authorize force back in 2002.

Earl, do you like the guy that preceded Miller as mayor?  (Mel Lastman IIRC?)  I always thought he was hilarious and loved him.

Yeah, Mel Lastman. And eww. The guy was a furniture store salesman.  He brought disgrace to the City of Toronto, which from a non-Torontonian (myself) may be a good thing Wink.

Who's worse than Mel Lastman? NOOOOOOOOOObody!

I don't think I could find five favorite Tennessee politicians if I tried. The local ones are so good 'ol boy corrupt and the national ones are all "OMG gAy MaRRiage!!!111" My Congressman, Steve Cohen, is a good guy, though he keeps sponsering all this apology for slavery type legislation which seems really insincere and cynical considering the makeup of his district. My senators are pretty good for Southern Republicans.

Jon Corzine
Rush Holt
Bill Pascrell
Frank Lautenberg
Reed Gusciora
Brian Stack
Cory Booker

Cory Booker being on the same list as Jon Corzine and Frank Lautenberg is itself an oxymoron.  Corzine and Lautenberg are crooks, Booker is one of the few good men in New Jersey politics.
While Corzine has had some minor ethics questions asked of him, Lautenberg never has. Booker isn't as clean as you'd think either. I'll try digging up some news on him of these conflicts of interest and mumbo jumbo.

3.yes, he desrved to lose.  Considering how poorly he was prepared, how much of a 'nice guy' he was and not having a platform other than "Let's abolish the single business tax"  Panderer that was against prop 2 because it was convient for him (although he'd probably gain a lot of votes if he'd change his veiw there).
Only thing I can say about 2006 is that I desrve better than Granholm.

4.He's pro-life now...  wait 5 more minutes though.

As for my favorite, easily Leon Drolet.

Hmm... Hywel Francis, Kim Howells and Ann Clwyd are all pretty good, but then again most of Wales's M.P's aren't bad. Most AM's can't, sadly, hold a candle to most M.P's, but I've taken a liking to Huw Lewis's attacks on the Taffia. Leighton Andrews and (though an M.P, not an AM) Chris Bryant deserve a mention for the Burberry thing.
And Paul Flynn should get a mention also. Him and Howells should have a row again, the last one was funny.

Historically, Jim Griffiths, Nye Bevan and Goronwy Roberts are at the top.
