I will give my top twenty (studio albums only), with asterisks by those that are in my collection (records and CDs). Also, limiting myself to one per artist, otherwise there would be a lot of complete discographies and I think it's more interesting to have more artists.

1. The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead* (1986)
2. The Clash - London Calling* (1979)
3. Orange Juice - You Can't Hide Your Love Forever (1982)
4. Elvis Costello and the Attractions - This Year's Model* (1978; also my current fave, but list is all-time)
5. The Housemartins - London 0 Hull 4 (1986)
6. The Wedding Present - Seamonsters* (1991)
7. Pet Shop Boys - Behaviour* (1990)
8. The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses* (1989)
9. Blueboy - Unisex (1994)
10. Morrissey - Your Arsenal* (1992)
11. R.E.M. - Murmur* (1983)
12. The Jam - Setting Sons* (1979)
13. Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks* (1977)
14. Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures* (1979)
15. New Order - Brotherhood* (1986)
16. Everything But the Girl - Amplified Heart* (1994)
17. The Lotus Eaters - No Sense of Sin (1984)
18. Electronic - Electronic* (1991)
19. Belle and Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister* (1996; a new discovery for me bought on a whim as it's past my "usual era")
20. ABC - The Lexicon of Love* (1982)

A list, I think, which aptly reflects my depression, anger, neuroticism, Anglophilia, and alienation.

Fortunately, I keep a list of my favorite albums of all time. I haven't updated the order/added new albums in a few months so this might be slightly outdated, but here's my top 20:

Sorry if it's too basic but I seem to listen to the entirety of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea over and over again some weeks. That is easily #1. Southeastern by Jason Isbell is the most influential on my life.

My most listened to country vinyls are probably Will the Circle Be Unbroken (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), Modern Sounds of Country & Western Music (Ray Charles), Kristofferson, and John Prine.

Feels wrong to omit Bruce but it's hard to choose a favorite.

Battista wrote the best Sufjan Stevens, Bob Dylan and Beatles albums (why did I accidentally have him on ignore! That should never have happened! I've been missing so much content) I should go back to Seven Swans more.

Top 20?

Mineral - The Power of Failing
Mineral - EndSerenading
Taking Back Sunday - Tell All Your Friends
Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary
The Ghost Inside - self-titled
Rainer Maria - Long Knives Drawn
The Wonder Years - The Greatest Generation
New Found Glory - Sticks and Stones
Rites of Spring - End on End
mewithoutYou - Catch For Us The Foxes
Jimmy Eat World - Clarity
Indian Summer - Giving Birth To Thunder
Counterparts - Tragedy Will Find Us
Cap'n Jazz - Analphabetapolothology
The Hotelier - Home, Like NoPlace is There

Brand New - The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me
blink-182 - Enema of the State
Stretch Arm Strong - Compassion Fills The Void
Jawbreaker - 24 Hour Revenge Therapy
La Dispute - Wildlife

Yeah that's actually 21 but I tried to limit it to one per band but I couldn't choose a Mineral album. Although I suppose the Indian Summer one technically isn't an "album". (Neither is Analphabetapolothology, but it does include a full length album within it.)

Decided to use the parameters you gave (top twenty, no artist repeats) to give this some structure. I try my best to vary my tastes, but I almost always come back to 2000s indie rock.

3. Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over the Sea (1998)
4. The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree (2005)
5. The Strokes - Is This It (2001)
6. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell (2003)

You should listen to The Darling Fire's "Distortions". The Darling Fire is one of those "middle-aged people who were in a bunch of well regarded emo and hardcore bands over 20 years ago" supergroups, but the album has been described as "If Evanescence was a post-hardcore band"...and that's accurate. I saw them at Furnace Fest 2022 and was so impressed I got it on vinyl.

Also you'd probably like Charlotte Sands, who I actually just saw on Monday (I also saw her at Riot Fest 2022), I checked her out initially because...well honestly because she's really hot, but her music is actually pretty good especially since it's largely targeted at Gen Zers who heard it on TikTok, kind of like an updated version of Paramore's early stuff, (it helps that she did a song with Underoath.) Actually one of her openers was a band called Senses which is kind of the same.

Sorry if it's too basic but I seem to listen to the entirety of In the Aeroplane Over the Sea over and over again some weeks.

Have downloaded and will take a listen.

Anything released by these guys:

I Feel Fine

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrAV5EVI4tU

Anything Bach or Mozart is always special, especially their choral music.

Johann Sebastian Bach

Mass in B Minor - Kyrie Eleison

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI3_-SpgR-s

When you listen to their music, it's actually hard to comprehend how two people could have produced that volume of world class music.

I loathe his current political opinions and actions, and I'm not going to pretend it doesn't influence how I feel about his work; I don't really listen to it much anymore since I feel fairly uncomfortable sending money to a guy who desperately needs mental healthcare, not fame and a platform to spread awful views.

However, that album is very good and influenced me a lot well before Kanye's recent decline into antisemitism and interpersonal violence and harassment. If I attempted to erect a purity test for moral behaviors there would be a lot of people off of this list.

(Not that I really care about the politics unless they're really loathsome, but this is the Kanye West from his "George Bush doesn't care about Black people" era, which is much more simpatico with your views).
