Why are Death Grips so popular with people who aren't rap fans?

I don't get it. Like I actually hear people who went to Furnace Fest talk about loving them, I saw a post-hardcore band cover one of their songs, I've even heard of metalheads liking them, and perhaps most notably they're even well regarded on r/Music which is notorious for hating rap in general and is despised by the rap-oriented subreddits (although I hardly ever read it because it's about dad rock-type stuff mostly, not emo.)

Like why?

I figured Deaf Grapes peaked in popularity a few years ago, but I think some people see them as industrial/electronic first, rap second. This might be less true now with the popularity of absolutely dissonant nonsense like Jpegmafia, but for a while Death Grips probably had more overlap with with people who listen to stuff like Aphex Twin than with typical rap.

That said, artists can transcend genre, sure, but most people don't limit themselves so strictly to certain genres either.
