The former member of the House died of Pancreatic Cancer. He was considered at a point for Reagan's vice president in 1980.

Sadly, this consummate politico lost his Congressional primary in 1994, the year the GOP took back the House.

It was actually 1992. He lost to Pete Hoekstra in large part due to Vander Jagt's involvement in the House bank scandal.

I remember this man. He gave a terrible speech at the 1992 Republican convention. He attacked Democrats for supporting the "status quo", even though the Republicans had run the country for 12 years.
