Some more examples:

That's one huge France!

Holy crap, that wasn't just a careless mistake.  It really took some effort to get it that wrong.

Charlemagne lives!  Smiley

Looking at it again, it looks like the background map is too small a scale.  That one might be a technical error, as opposed to stupidity.

That doesn't explain how Toulouse is east of Lyon.

Toulouse is off, but the rest would be right on a larger scale map.
No, Lyon and Cannes should both be East of Paris.
Strasbourg is directly north of Venice? No.

Even the BBC flops sometimes (like last Thursday in their One O'Clock News):

They were reporting on Syria and the UN Security Council, but used a picture of the "United Nations Space Command" from the video game "Halo" ... Wink

I've already tried faking it. It doesn't work.  The app is too smart for that.  I can't drive 3 mph, plus I would clog traffic.

First time I've looked at this thread, and the maps are hilarious.  I don't have any links to ridiculous maps.  But I do remember once reading a CNN story back when I lived in Tokyo, and where the story mentioned Japan, the name of the country was hyperlinked.  I clicked on the link, and a map popped up identifying Japan.  Thankfully, the map was at least right, but I sat there wondering why the online editor felt it was necessary to remind readers where Japan was...  I understand now; they were not reminding readers, they were reminding themselves  Smiley

Coincidentally, this is why my company has a pretty hard and fast rule about using not images we just picked up from the internet after a cursory search.

They could have at least pretended that it was intentional. I guess they have realized that nobody still watching television news actually cares, so they do it because they can.
