''A 16-year-old girl has gone to the High Court to accuse her school of discriminating against Christians by banning the wearing of "purity rings".

Lydia Playfoot was told by Millais School in Horsham, West Sussex, to remove her ring, which symbolises chastity, or face expulsion.

The school denies breaching her human rights, insisting the ring is not an essential part of the Christian faith. ''

----

In summation Smiley

1. The ring is not a Christian symbol, it is the symbol of an organisation that believes in abstinence.

2. The ring is a piece of jewellery and all rings are banned according to the uniform policy, except religious items such as crucufixes.

3. The silver ring can be had, for a small fee, on daddy's website.

4. The school have therefore placed a ban on a fashion accessory.

5. In breaking the rules, she was treated in the same way anyone else would have had they done the same.

But what about the guys who had a quick way of finding out which girls were easy and those who were not?

Surely their rights are violated.

So the school is taking it upon itself to interpret someone else's religion for them. Lovely.

Because school uniforms are fascist, why should this matter?

Seriously Bandit, my signature aside, calling school uniforms fascist is just plain silly when you compare it to real fascism.

Just to drive my point home...

Uniforms: (aka not really fascist)

vs.

REAL FASCISM

So please, let's not use that word for every little gripe we have about certain policies, ok?

Dibble,

How dare you insult the head of state of a foreign country! Apologize now.

Sincerely,

Unfortunately bullmoose, unlike in New America we have this thing called 'free speech' here in real America.

You use it to refer to anti-smoking ordinances.

Bandit is right, school uniforms are obviously fascist.  I see them every day here in Thailand, and they look fascist to me (not to mention that they symbolize fascism, and are implemented by a fascist state).

Lets see, about this prude-ring..  Did anyone else notice that the girl's name is 'Playfoot'?  Ok two points - 1) that is hilarious considering the Playfoots are prudes.. sounds like the name of an actress in a foot-fetish porn, and 2) white trash name, no surprise.

*sigh* Go ahead and ignore where I said "my signature aside", which I use in a tongue in cheek manner rather than seriously considering it fascist, unlike how you are seriously applying the word to school uniforms. Neither school uniforms nor restaraunt smoking bans are real fascism - I'm not saying they are desirable or good, just that it makes that word meaningless if you seriously apply it to every little f**king gripe you have.

Rounding people up, putting them in camps, and killing them is fascist. State control of all media within a country to suppress free press is fascist. Beating the living s**t out of protestors and political opponents is fascist. Stuff like smoking bans annoys the hell out of me and I definitely see them as authoritarian, but they are by no means true fascism.

Like I say, let's just ignore Bandit and Opebo and focus on the discussion. Nothing intelligent can come from talking to them.

If the school banned all rings, then it's legit.  This is NOT a religious item.
