He’d have to come in third for that to happen. If he makes the general election he’ll win

Maybe if Smiley (Newhouse plant) splits the vote.
I think Newhouse loses against another Republican in the general

I doubt it. Newhouse should easily win thanks to the Dem vote.

Newhouse barely won with dem support when the district was less red 10 years ago

I don’t think Newhouse was the clear Dem choice in 2014 when both candidates were unknown. An opponent likely needs more than 80% of the GOP vote to win.

This. Newhouse is going to be the clear choice for Democrats. My only fear would be that with a few years since the impeachment, Democrats may not really be as keen on Newhouse - particularly since he doesn't seem particularly moderate aside from that one vote. And Newhouse obviously cannot tout his impeachment vote without a huge tradeoff loss - it will be a big turn off to Republicans.

Part of the issue imo is that Newhouse's district is the only strongly Republican one in the state. It's not like McMorris-Rodgers' Spokane-anchored seat where there's a strong Democratic base, or WA-03 which is pretty much split even. I also obviously assume in an R v R matchup that Dem turnout will be much lower for this race. So he will need to win the Democrats OVERWHELMINGLY and do decently well with Republicans.

I think he can manage it, though. Hopefully he does! Let's keep the impeachment Republicans (him and Valadao) in Congress for as long as we can just to stick it to Trump.
