These two continue to be the only two Republicans with any common sense.

ron paul should go back to the libertarian party that he never really left.

This was the best piece of legislation ever.

I was sad that it was voted down.

Honestly, I don't understand how anyone could oppose this bill, even diehard supporters of the administration. Obviously, Cheney's office is not a part of the executive branch and therefore shouldn't be funded as such. Think of it as cutting an unnecessary government program not explicitly funded in the Constitution.

Yahoo. Jones is the representative from my hometown district.

I think he's going to lose in the primary next year though. He already has a good challenger raising money.

Jones is in an interesting place

a) He'll have some problems in the GOP primary. Unless he can get some establishment support for surprising reasons.

b) He would probably lose a Democratic primary.

c) He probably doesn't have the infrastructure to run as an Independent and win a three-way race.

Basically, his best lines of offense in a primary are as follows

1) Taking a Conservative stance on illegal immigration and hinting that his opponent is backed by people who don't have a conservative stance on illegal immigration especially if establishment figures help him out. ("When others wanted amnesty, Walter Jones stood on our side, and we need to keep him in Washington")

2) Emphasizing his social conservative views and emphasizing how much he has in common with North Carolina Republicans. ("Walter Jones has stood on our side on values, on guns, and on life itself, and we need to keep him in Washington")

3) Emphasizing that he's willing to take tough stances while noting that he thinks out decisions and sticks to them, while far left is sheepish or something. ("Walter Jones is committed to lowering spending, and that won't change. Some on the left can't keep a promise, but Walter Jones can")

Basically, Jones should have probably voted for that amendment to keep Pelosi from traveling to foreign terror-sponsoring nations. That would have been helpful for the primary.

Although, if McLaughlin wins, then Marshall Adame is in a slightly better position than he would be against Walter Jones.

Jones will probably benefit from incumbency since various activist groups will endorse friendly conservative incumbents no matter what. So He can probably run ads saying "Endorsed by the NRA! Endorsed by North Carolina Right-To-Life!" or whatever.

What's wrong with that? People don't have to be in just one political party (especially not in this country, where you have to be a member of one of the two mega-parties to be elected - which is frankly pathetic).

Heck, I kind-of hold membership in two parties. I'm a registered Republican and am an officer in the local College Libertarians (secretary, to be exact). Call me a traitor if you want. Tongue

Partisan nonsensery that had no real shot of passing or of being signed by the Bush Administration in any form.

Another pointless vote by the Democratic Congress?  What a surprise.

Stop wasting everybody's time and get back to work on something that matters.  You know, like maybe this "war thing."

whatever. Both my parents are registered Republicans, and my uncle is a registered indy, yet all three of them vote Libertarian more often than they vote Republican.
