Party switcher

John N. Kennedy, Louisiana's conservative Democratic state treasurer, is expected to change parties and run against Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu as a Republican at the urging of White House aide Karl Rove, despite harassment from the Democratic-controlled state legislature.

Kennedy long has considered changing parties, but wanted to wait until the current state legislative session ended. His switch was discussed on Mother's Day in a private lunch attended by Kennedy, Rove and David Vitter, Louisiana's Republican senator. When Vitter leaked Kennedy's intentions, the legislature began machinations to obstruct operations of the state treasurer's office.

A strong fiscal conservative, Kennedy is fighting maneuvers intended to chew up a state budget surplus, as a Republican, Rep. Bobby Jindal, is expected to be elected governor of Louisiana this year.

I thought Kennedy dismissed this option months ago, maybe he reconsidered.

Who'd have known an Indian would have made it to the house in Louisiana. Or Locke would become gov of Washington. But then, Washington isn't Louisiana.

I feel betrayed.  In '02 when Kennedy was running for senate against Vitter and Rep. Chris John, I thought he was actually the more left-leaning of the bunch.

Now he's prepared to abandon us to be a Karl Rove sock-puppet.  Ouch.

That was 2004. 2002 was Landrieu vs. Terrell.

Is Novak ever wrong? I certainly hope so. Anyway, there only needs to be real Kennedys in the whitehouse/congress, not these fake ones. He should run for governor as a dem.

Novak was wrong, in 2004, he said that WI, IA, and NM would vote GOP and OH would vote for J. Kerry and we saw how that turned out. He eventually backed off that prediction, but nevetheless he made it.

I mean with party switchers or major announcements.

That was a joke. I was implying if you're not from the more prominent Kennedy family, you're a fake Kennedy.

I've never posted my full name on this forum (and don't intend to start now), but you can call me Al.

Why do you ask?

At this point, isn't it utterly ridiculous to assume otherwise?

Jindal's district is very suburban. We'll see how well he can do in rural areas.

Without a legitimate challenger, again, I repeat: does it even matter?

Seems to happen a lot down there.  When will it end?

When there's nobody left in the Southern Democrats who isn't a liberal or black.

I think we should just give up on the South besides the urban area's. Its a hopeless cause. Eventually Marshall, Taylor, and Barrow etc will eventually be kicked out or will retire and their seats will go GOP. We should redirect our money West, where we have a better chance of winning.
