Introduction to Atlasia
«
on:
July 08, 2007, 06:36:59 am »
Welcome to Atlasia, a political/governmental simulation wherein participants take part in elections and referenda which shape the nature and laws of the nation. Atlasia operates as a federal state with five regions. The federal government has three branches: executive (President and Cabinet); legislative (Senate); and judicial (Supreme Court). Elections to the Presidency and Senate are held regularly.
The five regions are the Mideast; Midwest; Northeast; Pacific and Southeast. Each comprises around 10 states. Citizens of each region can participate in the regional government either as elected representatives such as the Governor or simply as proposers of legislation at the regional level. Each region has developed their own constitutions which set out their system of government.
Parties
Numerous parties exist in Atlasia encompassing a wide range of ideological positions. Many parties have a leadership, organise a platform and put forward and endorse candidates for elections. A brief summary of the ideology of the major parties is provided below. There are also numerous Independents in Atlasia who act outside of any party structure.
Registration
To join Atlasia, you must register in the Registration Thread. Simple state your name; preferred state of residence; and the party you wish to register with. You may register in anyone of the 50 real life states, D.C., and Puerto Rico. You can register at any time, however there are rules in place limiting rights to vote to those who have reached a total post count on the forum of 25; have posted more than 15 times in the previous 8 weeks; and have registered more than 10 days prior to the election. You may only change your state of registration every 60 days but you may change your party at anytime.
Further Information
If you want to learn more about Atlasia, you can explore the
Atlas Wiki
(linked via this symbol
above) which stores the Atlasian and regional Constitutions and laws, as well as information on current office holders and some details about many of the current (and past) participants in Atlasia.
Also, you should feel free to post any questions you have about Atlasia in this thread and someone should shortly be able to provide some guidance.

Below are some details from some of Atlasia's parties and other organisations that you may be interested in joining or learning more about. (The following descriptions are from party and organisational members, and do not necessarily represent the views of this author.)
Atlasian Political Parties
National Liberal Coalition
The National Liberal Coalition is devoted to economic moderation and social liberalism. We strive to create an Atlasia of sensible economics in which the government merely provides the tools for national and personal economic success. We are also supportive of the freedom of the people to govern their own social affairs and see government intervention in society to be fit only when government acts to expand that freedom.
For more on the National Liberal Coalition, see:
NLC wiki page
Jesus Christ Party
The Jesus Christ Party is a moderate political party which is accepting of persons from every political persuasion. Its main goals are socially progressive policies and the continuance of fair and active leadership on the regional level, a component of Atlasian government which it stresses as just as important as the federal component.
For more on the Jesus Christ Party, see:
JCP wiki page
Parties or other organisations interested in using this space should PM me descriptions, preferably no longer than about 100 words and a link to your wiki page or website (as appropriate).

As part of my reform agenda, I introduced the
Introduction to Atlasia Bill
before the Senate.
This is intended to be an unofficial pre-cursor to the thread that bill envisages. The Senate will be able to scrutinise the bill in due course and make such alterations as it wishes. In the meantime, I hope this will suffice.
If anyone (newbie or otherwise) have any questions, thoughts or recommendations please do make them known here.

It is currently under discussion. (I will delete this post in a couple of days so that eventually it will be just important content.)
I find the parties are often content to do nothing.

I'll take the liberty to describe the Progressive Liberals, of which I am a member.
The Progressive Liberal Party is for you if you believe the following things, [taken verbatim from the wiki]
1) If you believe a womans uterus is not state property you can join.
2) If you believe the rights of workers have been trampled you can join.
3) If you believe the poor and middle class should be able to recieve decent health care at a reasonable price you can join.
4) And finally, if you believe the military is a fat bloated overfunded behemoth then you should join.

1. The Atlas Forum Republican Party is Atlasia's main conservative party. It stands for limited government, traditional values, and a strong national defense.
2. The Christian Democratic Party seeks to unite Atlasia's real-life Reagan Democrats, as well as other populists and communitarians under one umbrella. It is its conviction that the family is central to the long-term health of our republic; that it is our duty and obligation to care for the weak and the vulnerable (including the unborn) as well as to protect and to preserve the environment for future generations through conservation; and that government can be a constructive and benevolent force in achieving these ends.

Sorry, missed this.
If any of the parties request that, then absolutely, I'll add them. Otherwise, I'll presume they don't want the sites tagged on, for whatever reason. As with the content, it's really up to them.

A question from a prospective member of the elections. I've read through the atlaswiki, but I can't find any information about creating a new political party.

Just register under the banner of a new party, and then (preferably) start a thread about it.
BTW, this is badly out of date, and it must by law be updated.

Indeed. The best part of founding a new party is disappearing for 80-90 years & coming back to wonder what happened to your party.

We have a President and a Vice-President. The current President is Bgwah (Jesus Christ Party-WA) and current Vice-President is Meeker (Regional Protection Party-WA). We only have a Senate because at this point, having a House would be impractical due to Atlasia's small population. A map of the regions is available on the Wiki. If you were to register in Virginia, you would be in the Mideast region, though. You register in the New Register Thread, at or near the top of this board. Given that you are right of center, I would recommend the Regional Protection Party for you.

3) If you believe the poor and middle class should be able to recieve decent health care at a reasonable price you can join.
4) And finally, if you believe the military is a fat bloated overfunded behemoth then you should join.
Atlasian Monster Raving Loony Party
The AMRLP is one of the oldest parties in Atlasia. It is also clearly its strongest; never mind the statistics! It supports doing crazy things, and adores the protector of the free and quasi-independent Midwestern Region, Governor ilikeverin. If you join, you get free cake, and maybe a hug
Atlas Forum Republican Party
The Atlas Forum Republican Party is Atlasia's main conservative party. It stands for limited government, traditional values, and a strong national defense.
For more on the Atlas Forum Republican Party, see:
AFRP wiki page
Other Groups of Interest
National Association Supprorting Abortion Rights
The NASAR supports candidates who are pro-choice on the issue of abortion rights and women's reproductive autonomy. It aims to influence relevant legislation on related topics and rally support behind its causes.
Atlasian Civil Liberties Caucus
The ACLC is a lobbying organization which supports a liberal/libertarian framework on social issues. Among its key issues are civil rights, protecting liberties in wartime, fair treatment of criminals, reproductive autonomy, fair immigration policy, and freedom from unwarranted government interference.
For more on the Atlasian Civil Liberties Caucus, see:
ACLC wiki page
Parties or other organisations interested in using this space should PM me descriptions, preferably no longer than about 100 words and a link to your wiki page or website (as appropriate).
Well I suppose that I am a Forum Republican then. But a few questions.
1. Why do you include an Atlas version of NARAL but not of NRLC?
2. Why do you not include all of the other single issue ratings? Thus far you have included only the single issue ratings for abortion, and even then only for one side.
3. Why do you include a liberal lobbying organization but not a conservative one?

I cannot join that party because I do not know of it. The first comment (the one from Jas) on political parties does not mention it; it does mention the National Liberal Coalition, the Jesus Christ Party, Progressive Liberal Party, Monster Raving Loonies, and Forum Republicans, but no Regional Protectionists. Are there any other parties that Jas failed to mention?
Anyway, this multiparty system is interesting.
