A southerner would help at least secure the GOP base for him given the lingering doubts there may be about his religion.

In terms of actually trying to win (not that I think he has sod all chance of that Smiley) he'd be best to go with someone like Voinovich.

Really? Hadn't checked the approval ratings lately; I was thinking simply in terms of someone who could give him a shot at winning Ohio. I guess things are even worse in Ohio for the GOP than I thought.

Maybe Tommy Thompson then to try to win Wisconsin. Like I said I agree it's probably a futile effort all around, but trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. Smiley
