I think it would be close either way... it would depend on what happens in Iraq from now to the election. By the way this is one of the few where I wouldn't predict a dem win right away as Giuliani actually has a chance.

Very close.  A truly titanic struggle that could go either way.  Definitely the A team of each party.  It would be quite a war.

Obama narrowly...assuming there are no major gaffes from Thompson or Biden (very possible).

Yep. I don't know who would win this, it would depend on what events transpire during the campaign.

I'm not sure who would win this match-up. However if I had to take a stab in the dark, I'd think the Dem's ticket of Obama-Biden would win by the narrowest of margins.

The reasons I think Rudy would win...

1. New York - Tennessee regional balance
2. Moderate/Liberal Republican - Conservative Republican balance
3. Rudy stacks up more than Obama

Yeah, we all poop our pants.

Here's a map....

The swing states in the Midwest go dem.
Guliani secures the west and Florida sans NM who only Bush could win.
Thompson helps Guliani in the south, but he can't keep Arkansas and West Virginia
Minnesota goes GOP because of the convention, the DEM convention helps Udall win and brings Obama within 50,000 votes, but Guliani plays well in the suburbs of Denver.

The election basically comes down to the suburbs of Philly which swung for Kerry, but have been put into play.

I am guessing that Obama wins by 1000 votes in PA, and therefore the presidency.

If Obama does well:
In 2012, he should look almost like Clinton.

If not:

I guess he will be Dukakis'd in 2012.

Clinton, a brilliant two term moderate (atleast then) southern democratic governor of Arkansas, compared to a liberal two-year Senator from Illinois who happens to be black?

Yeah...Obama's map will look like Clinton '92 LOL Tongue

Switch Minnesota, Arkansas and West Virginia. Ohio could be Republican with Giuliani (not anybody else though). In short, your map's bad.

I don't think Guiliani can do it in Arkansas or West Virginia....but can in Minnesota and maybe Pennsylvania. The guy's pro-choice and without a strong pro-life candidate, Wva. and Ark. have no reason to vote GOP......Pennsylvania and Minnesota may be more attracted to a pro-choice cadidate, despite people claiming the PA is southern-fried on social issues. I understand Penntucky, but it comes down to the suburbs and they are moderate libertarians. Also, I don't know how Guliani could win Ohio. The man for that job was McCain and now Romney....definately not Thompson...too much like Bush.

And they'd sure vote for Obama over Giuliani! Roll Eyes

That's because they'll

1- Stay home
2- vote on economic issues like they should.

The main thing is that he's black which means in those areas people will come out against him for those reasons. You shouldn't tell people how they "should" vote either.

By "should" I mean the better outcome for them, not what I tell them.

The only people that will not vote for a black guy already vote republican...except for the DEEEPP south, maybe.

...and the west could not be as simple as it seems. Being pro-choice and the most pro-miltary candidate will help Guliani in Colorado, but the gun issue will kill him.

Let's be honest.

Giuliani will not win Minnesota or New Jersey.
Clinton/Obama/Edwards will not win Colorado, Nevada or Arkansas.

Guliani might be able to win Minnesota.
The dems could win in Colorado or Nevada though Arkansas will never vote dem for another 50 years.

Rudy "stacks up better"? How so? It isn't like he's more qualified.
