Chichen Itza (Mexico) - I'd prefer the Mayan pyramid to this one

Christ the Redeemer (Brazil) - borderline, it does look impressive though

Petra (Jordan) - didn't realize what this was til I saw a picture and it was in an Indiana Jones film

Roman Colosseum (Italy) - just based on age I suppose this is allright

Taj Mahal (India) - no argument

Great Pyramid of Giza (Honorary Candidate, Egypt) - no argument

I voted. The one I voted for I liked the most was Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

Petra (Jordan) - didn't realize what this was til I saw a picture and it was in an Indiana Jones film

Petra really, really deserves it. The city itself is breathtaking and magnificent. You realize that these Nabatean folks were really smart. (I was in Petra last year). It's also amazing to see people (a few hundreds now) living in caves nowaday.

May I recommend Petra as a destination to anybody.

Christ the Redeemer is about as much as a wonder as this eyesore along I-75 near Cincinnati.


I really just don't see what is so amazing about a giant statue of Jesus.  The Wonders should be feats of architecture and engineering that have stood the test of time.  There were far better candidates than Christ the Redeemer.

Christ the Redeemer only won because the Brazilian prez made a big deal about this and encouraged everybody to vote. I think it fits in with the scenery extraordinarily well and is fairly impressive (much like San Fran's Golden Gate Bridge), but falls far short of being a top 7 world wonder.
