I don´t know if this question was ever asked here, but:

What If you have the opportunity to travel back in time to the Austrian-Hungarian Empire of the year 1910, better said to the capital Vienna first, then Sarajevo.

You further have the opportunity and information to find out where a 21-year old homeless and unemployed man called Adolf Hitler lives, as well as to find out the whereabouts of 3 men called Gavrilo Princip (20), Nedeljko Čabrinović (19) and Trifun Grabež (18) in Sarajevo.

Would you commit premeditated murder on these 4 individuals to probably save 70 Mio. people who would have died in WW1 and WW2 because of their actions ?

No, as the first world war was inevitable by this point. If not the assasination then some other minor event would have sparked it off. Plus the Balkans was a war zone well before 1914.

Rather I'd prefer to go back in time and injure Franz Ferdinand before going Sarajevo.. he might have been able to keep some more of the Austro-Hungarian Empire together had he became Emperor in 1916. (Though some dissolution was totally inevitable well before then.)

Neither.  I'd buy a ticket to the United States, nead over to Princeton and kill its University's President (who was also candidate for Governor of New Jersey).

Actually, I would kill Hitler. Spare the Serbs, though.

An Equally excellent choice I should add. Though better would have been killing the then writer of the Socialist Party Newspaper in Austro-Hungarian Trento, despite being somewhat of a partizan Italian nationalist.. Benito something I think his name was.

You might want to throw in Joseph the Georgian, Vladimir the failed lawyer and the King of Germany, finishing the job Anne Oakley should have done.

I concur, and I might also go back to 1898 and kill the assistant secretary of the navy, go back to 1847 and kill a freshman Illinois congressman, and go back to 1928 and kill both the Secretary of Commerce and the New York governor-elect. I don't think killing Hitler would have been necessary if I had done what Ernest has suggested as I doubt he would have come to power had it not been for Wilson.

You want Bryan to have a realistic chance to win the 1908 election?

The Serbs would obviously not have made any difference... besides the point that the assassination didn't make the war inevitable, some other conspirator would have done the deed.
30s and 40s Germany without Hitler wouldn't have been as bad as it was, but still extremely bad.

Well, TR was the first person to make the ideology of the U.S. as world policemen popular.

Nope, it would change the world from what it is today. Heck, I could make myself not exist.

Or you could find yourself trapped in the past, so that you end up becoming your own grandpa.

Yes, along with Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili, Lyev Davidovich Trotsky, Benito Amilcare Andrea Mussolini, Mao Tse-tung, and Shōwa Tennō.

I use it to deal with various troblemakers in Austria-hungary, Russia and the ottoman empire to make the age of empires last into the present.

If I could make it look like an accident, Franz Joseph von Habsburg; he only had six years to live.

Agreed, in fact it could've been worse, who knows. It's a dangerous road to go down, so no, I wouldn't go back in time and kill anyone even if I could.

I am of the firm belief that time travel should be specifically the domain of those making crank phone calls.  Making anything OTHER than crank calls to the past could affect the present and end your existence.

I still would have killed Woodrow Wilson so he couldn't have signed the Federal Reserve Act or gotten the country into World War I, though.

Hmm...if I kill Lenin and prevent Russia from becoming Communist, then Mao probably wouldn't have been inspired to lead the Chinese Communist Party into civil war. Hence my maternal grandparents may not have met each other, and I wouldn't exist. Wink
