I HATE HATE HATE Carver. I'm so glad I-169 curves so it doesn't pass through it because I don't even want to drive through that hellhole. No suprise there.

Also no suprise with Otter Tail. That and Carver are the other 2 counties that voted for Goldwater. I wonder if they've ever voted Democratic. Both counties are filled to the brim with rich folks and religious nutjobs.

Fillmore's a big suprise though, it's in a rather Democratic area, it's right next to Mower which is one of the most Democratic counties in the state, and it voted for Gore. Must've changed a lot.

Storebought,

What parish do you live in?

It shouldn't be too hard to figure out. It went with Ford in '76! (but it isn't a northern parish)

1960: Nixon
1964: Johnson
1968: Nixon
1972: Nixon
1976: Ford
1980: Reagan
1984: Reagan
1988: Bush
1992: Clinton
1996: Clinton
2000: Gore

It's gotten better lately. My county, Howard, is one of the top 10 richest counties in the nation (Not the part where I live) so it has tended to vote Republican in the past. We've had a Democratic county executive since 1998.

If you are a paid member, you get the maps from further back than 1960. Smiley

Marquette County, Michigan--

1912-Roosevelt
1916-Hughes
1920-Harding
1924-Coolidge
1928-Hoover
1932-Hoover
1936-Roosevelt
1940-Roosevelt
1944-Roosevelt
1948-Truman
1952-Eisenhower
1956-Eisenhower
1960-Kennedy
1964-Johnson
1968-Humphrey
1972-Nixon
1976-Ford
1980-Carter
1984-Reagan
1988-Dukakis
1992-Clinton
1996-Clinton
2000-Gore

Weird...it seems to ahev swung against the tide in both 1980 and 1988.

Well, my constituency in the UK has voted for the labour party every time since the early 60s I believe.

Well, it didn't really swing against the tide in 1988, it's a Democratic county overall, but not overwhelmingly so, thus it would make sense that Dukakis would win it, and also Carter in 1980. The reason that it voted for Ford in 1976 is probably because Michigan was Ford's home state.

Actually you mean US 169, not I-169. Smiley

Carver and Otter Tail both voted for Roosevelt in 1932, Carver voted for Wilson in 1912 and LaFollette in 1924, and Otter Tail voted for Roosevelt in 1912. Other than that, they've voted Republican in every election since 1900.

Bishop Auckland has voted Labour since 1935 I think... I think that Durham North West has as well (possibly longer. I think it went with the "National" Government tide in 1931, but I'm not sure).
Telford was created in 1997 out of the old Wrekin seat... which was normally Labour but swung Torywards in the '50's and 1983. Telford is a nice safe Labour seat though.
The Wrekin was created from the rural/suburban bits of the old Wrekin seat and is a Labour marginal (with an outstanding M.P though... he looks safe).
Ludlow was Tory from about 1910 (according to the local rag) until 2001, when the retiring fascist Tory M.P was replaced by an even more extremist right winger (and a carpetbagger as well) who was beaten by a LibDem.
Shrewsbury and Atcham (nee Shrewsbury) was Tory for eternity (often by very small margins though... it's a permanent marginal) until 1997 when Labour picked it up. The M.P later went gaga (literally) and defected to the LibDems. He'll lose next election, not sure who to though.

It does seem to be a Democratic county, from 1960-2000 only voting for Nixon and Reagan's landslide victory and Ford's homestate candidacy. Any other counties in Mich. that went for Ford in '76 and Carter in '80?

By the way khirkhib, I think you switched Clakamas and Washington Counties. Their records are identical except for '00 and '04 - you had Washington going for Bush both times when it went for both Gore and Kerry, and you have Clackamas going for Gore and Kerry when it narrowly went Bush.

That sounds so "Ohio"  (has went).  Used to live north of there (vicinity of Dayton) and that is how the locals spoke.  Wow, I almost sound like an arrogant liberal snob.  My apologies.
