Richard Nixon defeated Lyndon Johnson for President in 1968

Is that entirely accurate?

(Excellent connection between the Johnsons, though. Smiley )

Johnson was running at one point, wasn't he?

(I might do Hastert - Sumner in a bit if nobody else does)

Yes, initially; he then withdrew.

Please go ahead with the Sumner/Hastert connection, it's driving me nuts - I've tried to connect them & can't. Good Luck

1.Dennis Hastert was Speaker of the House for exactly eight years. The last person before him to be Speaker of the House for exactly eight years was Champ Clark.

2. Champ Clark ran for the position of House Minority Leader in 1903 but was defeated by John Sharp Williams.

3. While in the Senate, John Sharp Williams served as Chairman of the Committee to Establish a University of the United States. Prior to him, George F. Edmunds had also served in that capacity.

4. George F. Edmunds succeeded Solomon Foot as the Class 1 Senator from Vermont.

5. Solomon Foot served as President Pro Tem of the US Senate from 1861 to 1864, having recieved a vote from from Charles Sumner.

My answer is much more fun than that one (which was pretty much the easy way out)...

Hillary Clinton is running for the Democratic Nomination against Mike Gravel
Mike Gravel's name was in nomination to be George McGovern's running mate at the 1972 DNC.
George McGovern ran against Hubert Humphrey in 1968 for President.
Hubert Humphrey was VP under President Johnson.
President Johnson defeated Barry Goldwater in 1964 for President.

Joe: That was actually seven steps. But you followed my logic. Just get rid of Rudy. Bloomberg did cameos on law & Order alongside Fred Thompson. Nice work though.
