It might be a good idea to mention that all previous tuition taxes are hereby stricken.

Yes, that would be sensible.

I would also like to add to the school nutrition section a ban on non-naturally occuring trans fats in foods sold in schools.

I would be willing to equalize the amount of funds appropriated to each region in Section 2 if the amount given to each is increased, but I really do think that funds should be appropriated based on need.  I will admit that I do not know a lot about the situation in schools in the Northeast.

Only three amendments at once - so I'll take the first three.

I have an amendment myself - will post later.

Sam, can you post the full text of the bill as it now stands? Is it just Porce's full amendment or are there other sections to it.

It's Porce's full amendment.  The entire text of the bill was replaced by it.

I motion to:
1. Strike Section 4.
2. Add to the beginning of Section 7: "1. All currently existing taxes on college tuitions are abolished." and renumber subsequent clauses appropriately.
3. To strike the text of Section 2 and replace as follows: "1. Noting the poor quality of many public schools, an additional $500 million per Region shall go towards improving the maintenance of K-12 school buildings, textbook purchases, classroom supplies, teacher salaries, and before-and-after school extra-cirricular programs in public schools within the Southeast Region."

Throwing money at the problem is not going to fix it.  According to the OECD, the United States (I'm talking real-world here) ties Switzerland for first place when it comes to annual spending per student.  And the results -as measured by test scores and basic knowledge- are dismal.

What do you suggest?

It's not like I'm throwing money in the direction of the schools with no purpose or intention.  What the funds will be going towards is outlined in the same section.

Nay on striking 1 & 2
Nay on striking 5
6... I'm not actually sure if it's constitutional for the feds to mandate that, so I'll abstain.

I feel like the most powerful Senator ever.

You are.
I'm frankly not sure how constitutional your current role is.

EDIT: I suppose unless you try to cast any new votes as Northeastern Senator it's okay... weird as it sounds.

I know I don't have the constitutional power to do that—I resigned the post of Northeastern Senator two hours ago.  Wink
