What year do you expect Alaska to vote for a Democratic Presidential candidate? Or will Alaska vote for the Republican party for the rest of eternity?

Discuss.

For President? Not for awhile. Heck, one or both of the current two parties may collapse first.

It will if the GOP stays in Gilead long enough and oil no longer is that popular....maybe 2020..but if the GOP drops the entire fundy crap, places like Alaska will be the new Republican base, instead of places like Utah, Mississippi and Indiana.

Alaska could actually be a swing state, but its to oil that makes them one of the most reactionary states in the union.

...like voting for a really viable Green or Libertarian...or maybe even Bloomberg.

Well, Ed Clark got 11% in 1980, just 15% behind Carter. In 2000, Nader got 10%, only 19% behind Gore.

I'm sure it'll take a while. It's almost impossible to say exactly when because we don't know what direction the parties will take, what the national mood will be, and who the parties will nominate.

At this point all we can say for sure is there is almost no chance at all of it going Democratic in 2008.

Also not for a while with the way the Democratic Party in state looking like the Republican Party in  Massachusetts or New Jersey,In matter of fact I think it is in worse shape then the Republican Party in those two states.

Not for a long time, especially if Sarah Palin runs for President in lets say 2028, after 2 terms of Governor and 2 terms in the US Senate, wins the Election and is re-elected in 2032. Being a successful President she even manages that Alaska stays Republican until 2050 ...

Once a Democrat Presidential candidate supports oil drilling in ANWR, then yes, it could happen.

That's what I say.... or when the chips come off oil and onto...say solar. Who wouldn't want to build a giant panel where there is 6 months of sunlight and infinite space?

The Democrats because it would make it look ugly and kill animals (reasons they use so wind farms can't be built in certain areas even though they support it).

I think that Alaska will stay with us for a while longer.

Just wanted to note, that Alaska was very close to voting for Clinton in 1992. But that was because of Ross Perot.

9 points isn't really close.

It's pretty close for a state like Alaska.

Hubert Humphrey came very close to winning Alaska in 1968, Nixon beat him by 2.63%:

45.28% (R) Nixon
42.65% (D) Humphrey
12.07% (I) Wallace

There are no Kennedys in Alaska though! Tongue
