Just interested if there is a link.  'Some' is considered somewhere between medicinal marijuana & total legalization, for instance, legalization if someone has less than a certain weight of marijuana.

And 'yes' would include people who want 'no-driving-while-high', but anyone can get marijuana, and/or people who want an age restriction (similar to a smoking age restriction).

Replying with your answer is optional Wink Smiley

No/yes.

And then tax it like cigarettes.

No/Yes

Legalize marijuana, but socialize it's production. Lots of money for the government.

Keep hard drugs illegal, but end the pointless and wasteful war on drugs. Focus on rehabilitation.

BetterRed,

Oh my god, we found something on which we agree...LOL

I say legalize it, tax the sh*t out of it, then apply a large portion of the tax towards anti-drug education and rehab programs. The war on drugs is insanity...

anyone who's seen the facts can see how much of a waste it is.

think of all the money spent. now think of how easy it is for you to get drugs. i know of at least 5 people i can get hard drugs from, and i don't even look for people to provide them!

Option 5.

I say use the money from the 'War on Drugs' towards preventive programs.

We should legalize medical marijuana, I am undecided about legalizing it as a drug.  but we definitely should make it illegal to sell it on the street.

Option 1.  Legalize it, get excess prisoners out of our system, tax it, fund education in general.  Classic "sin tax" for education.

How often do you buy Lipitor on the street? Aspirin? Beer? If decriminalized there would be no reason for it to be sold "on the street".

Sometimes gangs steal them from CVS or Riteaid and sell them at a discount on the street to make a few bucks.

I would guess that is the exception rather than the rule. Besides, if you can buy a product from a reputable dealer where you can get a refund if not satisfied as well as be assured of quality why would you buy it "on the street"?

For a discount.

I never did it, but I know others who do.

Wow, I am happy with the results from this community.  I have been a medical marijuana activist for about eight years now.  I got 150 signatures on Prop. 215, the one that made MMJ legal here in California.  Cannabis is one of the most benign substances known to man.  It is not physically addictive and there is no possibility of overdose.  The worst that can happen is you will fall asleep (and waste your high).

It looks like you are in a pretty extreme minority ilikeverin and hughento.  Right now it's 19-2 in favor of those who approve of some form of legal access.  Is it possible that you posted the poll because you may be reconsidering your position?

You may find it interesting to know that ASA (americans for safe access) is currently going around to meet with the district attorneys in CA to educate them on MMJ so they know to leave us alone and not take our stash.  Mostly they know already.  Orange County's Long Beach City Council recently scolded their police chief and told hiim to stop harassing sick people and taking their medicine.  He is hip to it now.   I have had a prescription since 1998.

Here are couple of the best sites on the subject:
http://www.safeaccessnow.org/

http://www.drugpolicy.org/homepage.cfm

http://stopthedrugwar.org/index.shtml

I shouldn't be so surprised by the poll.  There  are a bunch of libertarians here who believe that people can think for themselves and that we should not have the gov't breathing down our necks.

Maybe if you tried it you would be better able to judge, ilikeverin.  Come on, everyone's doing it...you want to be part of the gang don't you??  One hit won't kill you man.  Come on, just try a little...

Wink  lol

(Polls from Time show 80% of Americans favor MMJ laws btw.  But if you ask what percentage Americans think will answer yes to this question they consistently guess that around 50% will.  I find this revealing of the stigma that still exists.)

Yes, yes.
And I don't think it's quite as harmless as some people make it to look - ie Freedom Burns. It's still definitely much more benign than Alcohol.

Agreed, marijuana is no worse than alcohol. It should be legal, but strongly regulated.

No/Medicinal(and I acccidently voted for the last option by mistake)

I've known some people who've done it and I've seen what a live recker it can truly be. On the other hand I know there are people out there, like FreedomBurns, who use it and need it for medical purposes and I believe that that is the only situation where it should be legal to use.

If it were to ever be legalized I'd hope the Government would listen to some who have posted in this thread and tax it, tax it, tax it.

I think it should be taxed. But not to death. Tobacco is taxed WAY WAY to much as well as alcohol.

Yeah, I've tried it, and I would love to see full legalization, but I'll take medicinal for now.

Keep in mind I'm not a junkie, but I believe if you're going to legalize and tax alcohol, you should do the same for marijuana.

Yes/Some (ie. make it legal to possess a certain amount, but not more).

On principle I support full legalisation but this seems to be a fair compromise.
