36%? I tried to tell you guys. I really did. It's looking like a landslide, folks.

Nice. At the rate Bush´s rating is going upwards recently, he may reach 100% approval before the day they sink his coffin into the earth.

Bush should run for a 3rd team. 36% puts him at a better standing to win than most of the other GOP candidates.

It could just be an outlier, the other recent polls are lower. CNN seems to poll higher, anyways; they had him at 38% in May.

Republicans should be running away from this failure of a president and his administration as fast as they can.

As a pattern that can be seen in 2004, 2006 and 2007, Bush seems to reach his nadir in May and June, rebound slightly thereafter, stabilize in the fall, peak around New Years', then decline again until May or June.

2005 is tainted by Hurricane Katrina (though, aside from a big dip in September and October, it follows the pattern), 2003 is tainted by the beginning of the Iraq War in March (which meant his approvals would be in continual decline for most of the year from a peak in March), 2002 was a period of continual decline due to his immensely high numbers at the beginning of the year, and 2001, of course, only has relevant data through early September.

Probably bad for the Republicans in 2008. Now their candidates have to run closer to him to win the nomination, but he still isn't more popular among independents.

This is entirely a response to gasoline prices.

The interetsing thing is that the next year holds more economic troubles, possibly even a mild recession, so that even a lowering gasoline price will not save them.

Nothing pessimistic about it, BM.  Life is a cycle, and the downtime is as unavoidable as the upturn.  You expect good times without remission?  (well I suppose if you backed liberal redistributionist Keynesianism you could hope for that).

I guess I'm neutral when it comes to reditributionist keynesianism.

Naso, it's ok to say that you don't know what that is. I don't know the specifics of it either.
