I would not, as I don't think it is humanitarian to kill someone who doesn't want to be in battle.

You don't know if the people you are coming into direct contact with wanted to serve or not.

No, as I have great distaste for all wars, regardless if the countless people slaughtered were drafted or not.

Well, I'd rather not kill someone who voluntarily served than kill someone who involuntarily served.

True. However, if it is a war of national survival ideology must be put aside lest they steal from your family or make you their homosexual slave.

Yes, if there was a good enough reason.

Nazi Germany had a draft during WWII.... Tongue

We still have the draft. I was drafted 2 years ago to  attend the compulsory 6 month military service. All 18 year old males from my town had to attend medical examination back then to see if we are fit for service. But I decided to do 9 months of national civil service in a nursing home instead of aiming my machine gun at an illegal immigrant on the Austrian-Hungarian border. About 60% of all newly conscripted Austrian males are serving their 6 month military service just because its shorter than the 9 month civilian service. 30% take the civilian service and 10% are not fit to do anything, they are ineligible for medical reasons etc.

For the question: No I would not fight in a war.

Yes.  If I was in the military and I was sent into action, I would go.

Yes.  While there are some wars in which I would not fight, whether I'm facing draftees, volunteers, or mercenaries, doesn't affect my decision.

Whether the other country has a draft or not has nothing to do with whether I'd fight in a war or not.

I would not, as I don't think it is humanitarian to kill someone who doesn't want to be in battle.

It may not be humanitarian, but frankly war isn't a very humanitarian procedure to start with. War is killing, and dead is dead. Is killing someone who believes they are fighting to protect their home, family, and friends voluntarily any more humane than killing someone who is forced into it? Will their loved ones mourn any less because the dead soldier was a voluteer?

Well if our very existence was threatened by an invading army, would you not fight?

And if that person is still willing to follow the order to kill your people, why should it matter if they signed up or not?

I mean, with that logic WWII was immoral, because almost every Axis (and Allied for that matter) country had the draft.  Should we not have fought Germany becuase the Nazis forced a draft?

I took back what I said after reevaluation. I would fight if the war threatened our existence, yes.
