Assad's thread gave me the idea. If any, what is my 'label'?

Also, what party would you say I'm closer to?

My 'platform' :

-abolition of the death penalty

-repeal of the PATRIOT Act

-significant loosening of drug laws; outright legalization of cannabis

-Canada-style universal healthcare

-significant electoral reform, and to encourage serious looks at IRV, PR, etc.

-term limits

-huge reform of immigration laws, to get rid of the waiting periods and essentially allow entry on demand (except for murderers and such)

-extension of the new immigration laws to cover illegals already residing in the country; 'amnesty' if you will.

-support port and border security and such, but oppose actual construction of a wall

-stricter environmental standards

-support for free trade under most circumstances

-balanced budget

-general decrease in tax rates when possible, especially for lower and middle classes

-simplification of the tax code; get rid of loopholes and such

-increased efficiency in government; reduced spending in many spheres, especially on defence and 'pork' projects

-end to corporate welfare and subsidies.

-nominally supportive of abortion rights, but generally apathetic to the issue.

Moderate progressive with deficit hawk leanings.

A very respectable ideology, BTW. Smiley

Me.

I call myself a social-liberal or a liberal democrat, which I think fits you perfectly as well. I agree 100% with every one of your positions.

Lets see how far you and I agree on the issues Smiley

Assad's thread gave me the idea. If any, what is my 'label'?

Also, what party would you say I'm closer to?

My 'platform' :

-abolition of the death penalty Yes

-repeal of the PATRIOT Act No

-significant loosening of drug laws; outright legalization of cannabis No

-Canada-style universal healthcare Possibly

-significant electoral reform, and to encourage serious looks at IRV, PR, etc. No

-term limits No

-huge reform of immigration laws, to get rid of the waiting periods and essentially allow entry on demand (except for murderers and such) Yes

-extension of the new immigration laws to cover illegals already residing in the country; 'amnesty' if you will. Yes

-support port and border security and such, but oppose actual construction of a wall Yes

-stricter environmental standards Yes

-support for free trade under most circumstances Yes, but that doesn't mean to say that I'd not consider supporting protectionist measures if necessary to protect certain sectors. It's also conditional on certain political requirements being met or, failing that, at least, a commitment towards realising on the part of reciprocal nations

-balanced budget No

-general decrease in tax rates when possible, especially for lower and middle classes Yes, but only for the lower and middle classes

-simplification of the tax code; get rid of loopholes and such Yes

-increased efficiency in government Yes ; reduced spending in many spheres Depends which spheres , especially on defence No and 'pork' projects Depends

-end to corporate welfare and subsidies. Not entirely

-nominally supportive of abortion rights, but generally apathetic to the issue. No

Assad's thread gave me the idea. If any, what is my 'label'?

Also, what party would you say I'm closer to?

My 'platform' :

-abolition of the death penalty Disagreed, it should definitely be used in some instances.

-repeal of the PATRIOT Act Agreed, either that or implement Ron Paul and Russ Feingold's Benjamin Franklin True Patriot Act bill.

-significant loosening of drug laws; outright legalization of cannabis I'd go further and say all drugs should be legal, but taxed and regulated.

-Canada-style universal healthcare No, Canada's system might spend a bit less on average but appears to be significantly worse than ours in terms of waiting time and service. I'm open to a Swiss type compulsory insurance scheme (two tier) however.

-significant electoral reform, and to encourage serious looks at IRV, PR, etc. Agreed, we need a parliamentary system as opposed to the increasingly stratified authoritarian sham Republic we have now.

-term limits Ambivalent. Then again my solution of public funding only is unlikely to ever be implemented.

-huge reform of immigration laws, to get rid of the waiting periods and essentially allow entry on demand (except for murderers and such) No, we have enough unskilled laborers in this country already.

-extension of the new immigration laws to cover illegals already residing in the country; 'amnesty' if you will. Disagree on blanket amnesty

-support port and border security and such, but oppose actual construction of a wall Agreed

-stricter environmental standards Agree 100%

-support for free trade under most circumstances Agree 100%

-balanced budget Agreed. In fact, pass an amendment!

-general decrease in tax rates when possible, especially for lower and middle classes Only if coupled with proper decreases in spending.

-simplification of the tax code; get rid of loopholes and such Agreed.

-increased efficiency in government; reduced spending in many spheres, especially on defence and 'pork' projects Agree 100%

-end to corporate welfare and subsidies. Agreed, we should do to corporate welfare what we did to normal  welfare (if not go even further).

-nominally supportive of abortion rights, but generally apathetic to the issue. Pro-choice. Support restrictions on late term abortions and that's about it

Assad's thread gave me the idea. If any, what is my 'label'?

Also, what party would you say I'm closer to?

My 'platform' :

-abolition of the death penalty Are you insane?

-repeal of the PATRIOT Act Only if its replaced with a more clear/less abuseable anti-terrorist act

-significant loosening of drug laws; outright legalization of cannabis Its a good start and my main focus but I'd go farther on all soft drugs. Hard drugs can come later on

-Canada-style universal healthcareGo with what NDN said

-significant electoral reform, and to encourage serious looks at IRV, PR, etc.Go PR in a single nationwide district for national elections and have states do PR

-term limits No

-huge reform of immigration laws, to get rid of the waiting periods and essentially allow entry on demand (except for murderers and such) Limit immigration to the first world, East Asia and Laitn America encourage muslims who aren't citizens yet to leave and work on converting those who are citizens

-extension of the new immigration laws to cover illegals already residing in the country; 'amnesty' if you will.No. Use the status of the illegals as potential hostages to make Mexico play things our way as in gut the socialist laws and clean up its acts

-support port and border security and such, but oppose actual construction of a wall Agree but you're too soft

-stricter environmental standards Yes

-support for free trade under most circumstances Yes

-balanced budget DEAR GOD YES

-general decrease in tax rates when possible, especially for lower and middle classes Maybe in the future but not anytime soon

-simplification of the tax code; get rid of loopholes and suchyes

-increased efficiency in government; reduced spending in many spheres, especially on defence and 'pork' projects yes

-end to corporate welfare and subsidies. yes

-nominally supportive of abortion rights, but generally apathetic to the issue. yes
