Romney probably wouldnt win Michigan in the general election, but he has a great shot at the primary there.

I doubt Mitt Romney could win the state of Michigan in 2008, if he is the Republican's nominee. However, if Romney was nominated he could make it closer than any other Republican nomination, that basis on that his father George Romney, was Governor of Michigan from 1963-1969. But, I seriously doubt that his father being the Governor of the state some 40 years ago will have an impact on how Michigan will vote in 2008.

If he wins Iowa and New Hampshire, then I would agree. But he's not doing so well in the polls here now.

Something is going to have to go very wrong for Obama for  Mitt Romney to have any chance to win the Presidential election of 2012. Michigan went to Obama by a blowout margin. Even the favorite son effect would be far from strong enough to flip Michigan.

Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin are now fool's gold for the GOP: they don't look very partisan until election time, and then they show what they are: traps for GOP hopefuls. So it has been since 1992, and those states have combined for only one GOP win for the Presidential nominee after 1988.
