I say yes, a good pickup for the Democrats.

Yep. If Shaheen gets in you might as well call him Sunuantorum.

Way too early to say for sure, but if Shaheen runs, Sununu's will have an uphill battle for reelection.

You can't really say anything for sure since we are more than a year away from the election but his chances of winning are slim at this point.

Shaheen looks very likely she will run.  You don't need to know much about politics to realize an Incumbent Senator trailing by more than 20 points is done.  Even if she doesn't run he is pretty much gone.  Who is the person who voted no??

Even is Shaheen doesn't run (which, unfortunately, it looks like she will) Marchand would still beat him by a good 10 points.

Why's that unfortunate?

Not really a big Shaheen fan. She ran a crappy campaign in 2002, she supported the Iraq war. I think she'd be a very Hillary-esque Senator.

On the other hand, her running means we need to spend less in NH, and can spend more in Minnesota, Oregon, etc.

Sununu will hold his seat if Hillary, Osama, or Edwards is the Dem nominee

Yep if bin Laden wins the Democratic nomination, I'd say he is in good shape.

I don't think we have to worry about anything in the senate in 2008 unless Bush pushes the high forties in approval ratings.  If they win Louisana, we will just win New Hampshire. If they win South Dakota somehow, we will counter with Minnesota and Colorado. We should at least break even, if not gain another 4 seats. I am guessing Bush's media blitz will get him to 40 by early spring and that he will be able to restrict our gains in the senate to 1 or 2 by making a positive spin on the war, stating there are more soldiers in Iraq. I am guessing that we will lose LA and pick up MN, CO, NH at this point. Schaffer is tanking hard, Sununu doesn't have a chance and Coleman isn't above 50 yet, even against Franken.  I think Collins and Smith are smart enough to win an election. I would consider CO a conservative back-to-backer if Schaffer is replaced by a more McCain-like candidate by November.

No way.   Hillary is leading even Giuliani in New Hampshire by like five points.  She is not a drag there.  The only places where she is a drag are in the South and the rocky mountain west(Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana) as well as some of the plains states like Nebraska and Kansas.
