With the race to see who can be first in line to vote in the 2008 Presidential Primaries, ... the winner is: The Atlas.  Starting today, the 2008 Presidential Primaries (Republican and Democratic) are now on-line for your participation pleasure.  I'm sure that there are still some bugs for me to work out, so please let me know if you find any.

It works as follows:
 - all primaries are considered "open" for the purpose of the mock election (doesn't matter which party you are registered with, you can vote in either Rep or Dem primary).

 - you may cast a ballot in either Rep or Dem primary, but only one ballot may be cast (I will soon add the ability for you to change your ballot or change which primary you cast it in).

 - the delegates are awarded based approximately on the rules for each state (note: there are no district delegates, all such delegates and allocated as if they were "at large").

 - I do not distinguish between a caucus and primary for the purpose of the mock election.

 - You also have the option when you cast your ballot to consider your vote as an endorsement.  This option may be added to show a support banner in the forum or predictions, but is not implemented as yet.

Have fun!
Dave

    And tell the pleasant prince this mock of his
    Hath turn'd his balls to gun-stones; and his soul
    Shall stand sore charged for the wasteful vengeance
    That shall fly with them: for many a thousand widows
    Shall this his mock mock out of their dear husbands;
    Mock mothers from their sons, mock castles down;
    And some are yet ungotten and unborn
    That shall have cause to curse the Dauphin's scorn.

Thanks Dave.  Will you be adding primaries for third parties?

Dave - I'm a little behind in knowledge, but there's rumor that MI will lose 1/2 it's delegates if we go earlier than some date - so the delegates listed on the page may not be accurate for the REPUBLICANS ONLY.  Somebody smarter would know better.

Since the Democrats have delegates for Democrats Abroad, could the foreign vote be used to pick those delegates?

Dave, you should change the link on the little Mock icon to link to the 2008, not the 2004.

That's nothing. Look at Ohio!

Candidate        Home State    Political Party     Popular Vote     Delegates
Mike Huckabee Arkansas        Republican        1   50.00%         85 96.6%
Ron Paul           Texas             Republican        1   50.00%         0 0.0%

I'm not sure about MS, but for OH the primary is just for Reps and Inds. Huckabee's vote came from a Rep and Ron Paul's vote came from a Democrat. That is why Huckbee gets all the delegates.

As I was looking over the Primary mock, I notice that Dave is going giving out some of the delegates, not all. For AL it he is giving out 45. Since 45 is not an even number someone has to get one more delegate then the other. I'm guess it when to Fred because he was the first on to get a vote in AL.

Alright well if nobody will answer my question I'll answer it for ya:

Bill Richardson is a hack, and he's only holding on because there's only 1 voter in Florida, Arksansas, Missouri, and Maine.  He's leading this thing because about 10 or 11 Bill Richardson voters decided to vote first, and I have no idea how this happened.  Gee, could it be that a Bill Richardson blog links to the Atlas?

http://richardsonforamerica.blogspot.com/2007/01/why-bill-richardson.html

Personally my bias is towards either Obama, Kucinich, Clinton, Biden, Dodd, Edwards, and Gravel.  Any of them (!) I can understand voting for.  But a slow-talking, awkward, former Energy Secretary, governor of New Mexico...

...could it be that Atlas voters really have lost their sanity, and choose to vote for a blockhead?

I'll let you decide on why he leads.

I've heard Bill Richardson described as a terrible debater, but a hack?  He is, by most accounts, a fine governor of New Mexico and accomplished in foreign policy.

I still haven't decided who to vote for, but very cool Dave Smiley
