I wouldn't be so optimistic for the Democrats as the Republicans have a habit of holding on to the California Governorship.

Doesn't matter. Tom McClintock et al. can't be elected statewide in California, and the Republicans are not going to nominate a liberal no matter how hard Schwarzenegger pushes them.
