Obama, than Jindal, and maybe Harold Ford.

It's either Barack Obama, or Harold Ford, Jr.  And between the two, Obama is the more likely to gain the nomination of his party to run for president.  If he doesn't get it next year, he would most certainly get it in 2016.

Why the continued obsession with Harold Ford?

If the man can't win an open-seat race in 2006, I don't see him having much better luck in the future.

To answer the poll question:

Of those listed, Obama.  However, it's more likely that it will be someone not on this list, in my estimation--I wouldn't put Obama's chances at ever becoming President above 50%, personally.

Obama. I don't even know how Richardson is on US soil let along even thinking about getting the nomination. Yet more proof the INS isn't doing it's job.

The Republican base will never vote for Jindal, meaning he'll never make it out of the primary. There's a good chance, on the other hand, that the democratic base will vote for Obama. Even if Jindal does make it to the general, he's way too conservative to win a nation-wide election. Obama is a liberal, but can't really be portrayed as an extremist. Plus as his senate campaign in Illinois showed, he has an ability to reach out and bring people together, which I don't see Jindal duplicating.

Also, btw, Hussain is a common name in Arab and African countries, as well as on the Indian subcontinent. The name itself comes from an Arabic word meaning "handsome." Obama is not and never has been a Muslim. He is a Christian, as are most black people in the US and most black people in the world.

Even if Obama loses the nomination in 2008, he's young enough that he could come back and win in 2012, 2016, or 2020. That's why I think that of the people on the list, he's the most likely to be the first non-white president (though he is half white, so he may only fulfill half the requirement)

Ford was very close, and if it weren't for that racist commercial that Corker ran at the end of the race, he may well have won.  There is a good chance he'll upset Lamar Alexander in 2008.

Obama. I don't even know how Richardson is on US soil let along even thinking about getting the nomination. Yet more proof the INS isn't doing it's job.

The original Richardson to immigrate to the U.S. was his great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, Thomas Richardson, who died in Woburn, Mass. in 1651. On his masculine line he has only U.S. citizens since the country was created. Unless you either believe only Native Americans have citizenship rights, or, else, that Mass has been expelled from the Union some time in the past, or, at least, that working for U.S. companies abroad and marriage to a foreigner disqualifies one's children from U.S. citizenship, I do not think you have a consistent argument there Smiley

1. Thomas Richardson, b. England 1608, d. Woburn Mass 1651
2. Nathaniel Richardson, b. Woburn Mass 1650/1, d. Woburn Mass 1714
3. James Richardson, b. Woburn Mass 1675/6 d. Woburn Mass 1722
4. James Richardson, b. Woburn Mass 1703/4, d. (unknown, before 1761)
5. William Richardson, b. Woburn Mass 1731, d. Princeton Mass 1814
6. Samuel Richardson, b. Lancaster Mass 1760, d. Princeton Mass 1814
7. Peter Richardson, b Princeton Mass 1798, d. Brookline Mass 1878
8. William Everett Richardson, b. Princeton Mass 1825, d. Cambridge Mass 1902
9. William Blaney Richardson, b. Boston Mass 1868, d. Matagalpa Nicaragua 1927 (collector for various U.S. museums)
10. William Blaney Richardson, b. Chinandega Nicaragua 1891, graduated from HS in Vermont, BS Tufts U, MA Tufts U, manager of the Mexico City branch of First National City Bank of New York, d. Mexico DF, Mexico 1972

Good to hear Smiley

Anyway, what is particularly funny is that anybody can think of Richardson as "non-white". I am not sure of his paternal grandmother (she comes from a rather native-dominated part of Mexico), but even on his maternal side he seems to be as white as the King of Spain. In Mexico he would be, unquestionably, "white".  Looking at his pictures, it would seem he'd be considered "white" in pretty much every country southwest of Germany (ok, true, he'd be "black" in Russia - so would be Giuliani) Smiley  That a white politician of Mexican origin is considered "Hispanic", while an equally white politician of Spanish origin would not be, is what makes me really smile.  Of course, as we all know, if we go by the standards of the late 19th/early 20th century, the U.S. has already had a "non-white" president: JFK Smiley

Jindal would at least be a top contender among the Republicans in 2012 if he ran and there is a incumbent Democratic President at the time. Also he was born to Hindu Indian immgrants and converted to Roman Catholism during his high school years.

Nah, that's the only time I've ever had that happen. The South is getting better about that.
'Better' isn't good enough though. If you're not a white or black southerner and economic times get BAD(as I could see happening anytime). Well Dixie has a long and dishonorable tradition of not liking outsiders.

I'm pretty sure he answered that in a previous altercation between you two.

Anyway I can't wait to see Opebo's response when a black is elected President.

You really think a hispanic will be elected before a black? Americans seem far more hostile towards hispanics than blacks. I can't see a hispanic being elected President any time soon.

I think right now a Black is more likely to be elected than a Hispanic, but a Hispanic is more likely in the future.
