I don't disagree, unless one has a legitimate reason for an SUV...but I don't think the guy who had his staffer cut in line for a PS3 has the moral standing to tell us to do anything sacrificial.

Or built a 30,000 sq.ft. home for that matter.  Which reminds me, what cars does his campaign use in their daily movements.

Edwards runs a carbon neutral campaign. And his house is green too.

Edwards' problem is that he stands up for the poor, and that leaves the media and many on this board attacking him like crazy.

And supposing that were true...how does that support the argument that John Edwards has the moral ground to tell the people to give up SUVs?

Define "moral ground".  Whatever fascination the media had with some PS3 is obviously irrelevant.

I'd like to know your definition of moral ground, especially since you're quick to discount Edwards' video game escapade...

Is he thinking that SUV owners should just haul them off to the scrap yard and write off a $20-30, 000 investment? Selling them wouldn't do anything since the new owner would still be driving them.

Oh well I wasn't planning to vote for him anyway.

Now now...do you really think of an SUV as an investment?

Call it what you like. But how would you feel if you spent $30,000 on something and some hayseed politician told you to give it up?

SUVs should certainly be outlawed, but those who just purchased them should be allowed to drive them.

You tell me how the PS3 is relevant.

I think he wants people to stop buying new SUVs.

Well, I think it speaks to the value of Edwards' beliefs if he's willing to use, or to allow his staffer to use, his power/status to cut "in front of the line" indicates to me, that when John Edwards talks about equality, he probably means everyone's equal but me...and when it has to be the great mass known as the American people,

I take that to mean everyone but John Edwards.

So, the question I ask you Jfern, how does a man who has people cut in the front of the line have any standing to tell me or anyone else to not have an SUV?

How do you know that the staffer wasn't acting on their own accord? This is a pretty petty thing.

Well, I'll grant you that individually, each of us is a finder of fact, if someone believes that it was Edwards' staffer doing such a thing, with no instructions...then obviously your view on the situation here is different.

However, I'm leaning towards some complicity, at the very least, by Edwards in this...

On a side note, what happened to the staffer who either a) did it per Edwards' request, b) did it for the Edwards without any request, or c) did it for himself?

I wonder how this will play with his populist voters in the south...you know, the ones who work rural jobs and have to use SUVs.

Not well. Then again Edwards is a socialist so don't expect logic from him.

All of the 'zinger' arguments about this are against Edwards himself, and not his ideology.  He doesn't have the "moral ground" to make this claim, it isn't a safe bet electorally, blah blah blah.

At least someone had the balls to propose such an idea.

Peak oil will solve the SUV problem without any need for political intervention.

Yeah, we should all drive SUVs.  Practical.
