words are different than actions.  he's not going to come out and say that the Dems have no chance there.  besides, a campaign in Idaho can't cost that much anyway...

He has to say that. He can't get out there and say "You know what, we've got no chance" even if it is true. Political theater at its best.

Of course Democrats are going to compete in Idaho. We should be competing for every single seat.

I like how you think that you know better than Chuck Schumer. It will at least scare the GOP and Club for Growth to pour money here again. And it's not like our 2006 performances with less money and know national support wasn't great.

Of course he's going to say that.  It will make the GOP donors more likely to waste their money in Idaho instead of boosting up vulnerable incumbents in Minnesota and New Hampshire.  Plus, the Democrats' strategy of competing in every district and every state wasn't exactly a flop last year.

Schumer is just talking tough. I'm sure he'll have some polls done too see how feasible an Idaho effort would be before committing any money. I also imagine he is spending a good deal of time on the phone trying to get Mark Warner to run in VA...

Schumer is merely talking tough.  The Dems will not spend money in Idaho (unless Otter somehow appoints Sali) and Republican donors are not going to be fooled into giving money out there.

Schumer is merely trying to enthuse certain sectors of the Dem base who believe national takeover is possible (see DailyKos) and de-energize the Republican base (which sounds pretty de-energized already).

Wow.  I never realized Schumer was stupid.

Wow.  I never realized Elizabeth Dole was stupid.

You're quote was corrected to show which Senate Campaign Committee Chairperson was pwned in 2006.

BTW, Schumer is a lot of things -- loquacious, brash, ambitious, precocious (youngest Democrat in the Senate Leadership) -- but stupid is not a tag normally attached the senior Senator from New York. Try getting elected to the State House at 23 before you denigrate another person's intelligence. I know/hope you were joking, but Schumer is one of my political heroes and I don't appreciate your misguided attack.

On the other side of the coin, the DCCC decided not to waste money on the absolutely hopeless Shea-Porter in NH. LOL.

Clearly the lesson of that election is that the Democrats can win every single seat in Congress were the party not dominated by a cabal of evil BushDogs.

I was about to make a joke that the only thing the three have in common is that they're all states, but since Virginia is a Commonwealth, even that isn't really true.

What do you want Schumer to say? Something along the lines of, "Yes we have no chance in Idaho and never will."? That would be dumb. Chuck Schumer may be many things, but dumb he is not.

As things stand now, the DSCC has way more money to throw around than the NRSC, and if they can force the republicans to divert even a relatively small amount of money to Idaho, which yes should be a safe state for them, it will help dems win in other states. Besides, the Republicans could nominate a terrible candidate or get drawn into a self-destructive primary fight, in which case there could be a chance, however tiny, that a dem could win this seat.

Besides, I'm very much in favor of doing away with all the red-state/blue-state s**t and having two parties that compete everywhere in the country.
