Though I don't think Bush will be elected president I know that it is possible.  I however really don't think that Powell would be in the next cabinet.  Powell would never annouce that he is not going to be on the cabinet because he is loyal and respectful to his boss but I don't know to what extent he is going to campaign for Bush either.  He knows that if he resigned or said he would not be returning in the next cabinet that it would cost Bush votes and even if Bush/Cheney don't want Powell their any longer they won't say anything like that until after the election.

Powell has been ostrasized and ignored by Bush for much of the last four years, he has done his tasks (speak to the UN) only to have his words crossed by Bush's actions and quite frankly it is suprising that some one as popular as Powell (especially in this GOP year of inclusion) is not speaking at the convention.

So the question is do you honestly think Powell will be in the next cabinet.   If he is will it be in the same position.  If he isn't how will his resignation play out in the media (what will the spin be) and what would he go on to next.

I believe Powell has already made it fairly obvious that he's ready for retirement.

He's already said he won't return.

Powell is going to retire.  His position has been marginalized to being a PR man.

Why would it make a difference?

I wish the voters knew that.

If the liberal media reported it, the voters should know (ha ha). And certainly they would have raised questions about whether or not frictions between him and the administration led to this. But seriously, I have not heard it. When did he make this decision?

It was around December/January . . . the typical timeframe when cabinet members need to make it known to a President that they wish to leave as so they can start recruiting their replacements before the campaign for re-election.

I cannot possibly see Armitage staying if Powell goes, they are really close. And Powell is not staying.
Who could be Powell's replacement? Is there a thread somewhere about possible Bush and Kerry cabinets?

Such an awesome job that Iraq has a 70% unemployment rate, a pro-US population has become anti-US, and we have $18 billion in unspent aid money.

If Bremer is named Sec. State, or Armitage, I will support impeaching Bush.

I think JohnFord, that we've found some common ground. Amazing.
