A whiff of it in passing?  I'm not that hyper.  Diners and restaurants should feel free to ban smoking, in fact I'd likely frequent establishments that do.  But they shouldn't be forced into it, especially not bars.  Smoking is a stupid cultural development and I think we're doing a good job at educating people and encouraging quitting without extreme overreaction.

Alcohol sales restrictions - Libertarian, though really, what is the harm in state-owned liquor stores?

Better question: What is the point?

There has been no scientific study that wasn't later shown to be bullsh**t which has shown any link between secondhand smoke and cancer.

Although I wouldn't really mind if the state banned it on state-owned property (which there should be as little of as possible).

I guess that would better get my point across. I'm not pro-state liquor stores, I just don't think it's that big of an issue either way.

You cannot be serious. There have been studies showing that second-hand smoke is harmful. There have been studies that show even breathing in second-hand smoke for a few minutes can affect your heart health for a few hours or so. There have been studies that showed, when smoking bans were implemented, public health improved in the months and years following. There have even been studies that showed cigarette smoke was just as toxic, if not moreso, than car exhaust.

Even obnoxious libertarians like Penn & Teller later recanted most of their show on second hand smoke and admitted they were wrong. It's not really that complicated of an issue, even common sense would tell you breathing in all the garbage in cigarettes can't be very good for you.

I understand that second hand smoke is deadly, but I just don't think restaurants & bars should be forced to ban smoking. IMHO, that's kind of like saying drinking can kill you, so it should be banned from all restaurants.

Not at ALL.  Moderate drinking can be mildly beneficial, but each cigarette is terrible for you.

Guns- Authoritarian. Although I don't actually oppose gun ownership so much as the zeitgeist of "gun chic" that has emerged in recent years.
Gambling- Libertarian.
Alcohol sales restrictions- Libertarian.
Tobacco- Libertarian.
Smoking in public- Libertarian.
Tobacco advertising- Libertarian.
Strip clubs- Libertarian.
Fashion industry (in relation to eating disorders)- Libertarian.
Fashion industry (in relation to "morality")- Libertarian.
Pornography- Libertarian.
Prostitution- Authoritarian in low class areas because it usually involves exploited/underage/drug addicted girls and women.
Fast food- Libertarian.
Pop sales in high schools- Libertarian.
School uniforms- Libertarian.
Marketing to minors- Neutral.
Violence in the media- Libertarian.
Sex in the media- Libertarian.
Profanity in the media- Libertarian.
Suburban development- Libertarian.

Hmmm, this is probably the most libertarian poll result you'll ever see me get.

As Fezzy said, drinking in small amounts actually has some studied benefits.

But more than that, there is no such thing as "second-hand drinking" that harms people around you by virtue of just having a glass of wine, or whatever your alcoholic beverage of choice would be. The mere act of smoking instantly harms the health around everyone around you who happens to breathe in that smoke.

Moreover, when it comes to drinking public, there are alot of laws against being intoxicated in public. Drunk driving laws, public intoxication laws, and so on, all of the dangerous aspects of drinking too much to the point of harming others is pretty much covered.

Even if drinking too much killed you, it would be that person's own stupid choice. I have no problem with whatever harm people decide to do to themselves.

Edit: Damn you Sewer. Tongue

If you shave using a spray can, you are inhaling more carcinogens than if you spend a couple seconds walking past someone smoking.

If you put Classic Ranch dressing on your salad, as opposed to Balsamic Vinaigrette, you are shortening your life more than if you spend a couple seconds walking past someone smoking.

You mention car exhausts.  I find your claims somewhat dubious, since people can kill themselves with car exhaust and I've never heard of anyone immediately dying from inhaling secondhand smoke, but think about the total quantity of noxious substances released into the atmosphere by car exhausts and compare that to the amount released by smoking.  It's got to be around 1,000,000 to 1.

If you ride a motorcycle (which releases a few packs of cigarettes worth of filthy smoke from its two-stroke engine every few minutes), you are statistically shortening your life much more than even if you yourself smoke.

Of course, Jeanne Calment, the oldest person who ever lived (to 122) had a two-packs-a-day habit until age 117.

But you can chose whether or not to enter a restaurant that allows smoking, just like you can chose whether or not to drink.

Pop sales in high schools- opposing it is libertarian, we're talking about public money being used to set up machinese with coca cola and others pushing for it for obvious reasons
There are only two ways (that I can think of) of how a soda machine can appear in a school.  The school buys one and then makes a killing on the profits (paying for the costs of the machine in very little time) or someone else comes in with a machine, makes a killing and gives the school a cut of the profits.  I can't see how a school could lose money on soda machines (although the way a lot of schools are run I wouldn't be suprised either).  I can see some reasons to not want the machines on school campuses...kids are stupid gluttons being at the top of the list, but that would be an authoritarian reason.

Unless I'm missing something (the "obvious reasons" part maybe?), I don't understand how opposing them could be libertarian.

Tobacco - Authoritarian
Smoking in public - Authoritarian
Tobacco advertising - Authoritarian
Strip clubs - Libertarian

Fast food - Middle
Pop sales in high schools - Libertarian, but schools should be encouraged to also provide healthier drinks
School uniforms - very Libertarian
Marketing to minors - Middle
Violence in the media - lean Authoritarian
Sex in the media - very Libertarian on sexual explicit concepts and nudity, actual sex acts lean Libertarian compared to status quo
Profanity in the media - Libertarian (if forced to censor some language, I'd rather censor racial/sexual slurs than profanity)
