I doubt we'll ever have an openly gay president.

Openly gay? Who knows?

First gay President? Possibly James Buchanan, though we'll never know for sure.

The United States will cease to exist before we elect a gay President.

Give it 30-40 years and we'll probably have one whose either outed or openly gay/bi. A bisexual wouldp probably be significantly more electable than a gay.

Okay, so we've conclusively answered the question "who was the first gay president?" On to the next question, "who will be the next gay president". And the answer is: Whoever wins in 2008, of course, unless it's Hilary. GrinThe Netherlands are a monarchy. Silly you.

And they've never had a homosexual monarch OR Prime Minister. You're probably thinking of Pim Fortuyn, who was basically the Straha of the Netherlands.

Well, if those scandals over there at the "family values" GOP keep breaking every other week or so, I would say just about any of the current republican senators with a wide stance.

There's a greater than 50/50 chance that James Buchanan was either gay or bi, so it may have already happened.

If not, probably none of the above. A lot of people (including to some extent myself) have irrational beliefs or fears regarding homosexuals (in my case, just irrational fears). While the younger generations are generally more accepting than elders, this will take a lot of time. I don't believe the first gay president will be a baby boomer. Maybe Gen X or Y. It'll be easier for America to accept a black, female, and/or jewish President; probably a mormon, buddhist, or atheist as well.

a bisexual woman who's married to a man would probably be the most electable, but I can't see that happening until 2040 or 2050.

I find that comment offensive. Pim Fortuyn almost became prime minister in 2002.

Why? Straha's probably ideologically closest to Fortuyn of all the posters we got here.
