Boys Don't Cry is tamer than Kill Bill Vol. 2? What the hell are you thinking?

Uh, it originally got an NC-17 rating, contains a brutal rape scene and a shotgun murder far more explicit and gory than anything Kill Bill Vol. 2 (which isn't very gory at all actually, not that it was a bad movie, but it was nothing like the first)

I wouldn't have bothered with a ratings system.

The Departed T
Pulp Fiction T
Reservoir Dogs T
Garden State T
Donnie Darko T
Sin City T

That's just as dumb as the current system. Garden State gets the same rating as Sin City for a few uses of "f**k" and a few scenes of drug use?

Garden State got an '18' rating here, the highest there is - mainly I think for one scene (where Braff and Portman are in the hotel and looking into the hotel rooms along with a porter.. I think you know what scene I'll talking about.) but then again so did most of those movies in the list (Donnie Darko only got a '12' iirc and Speed '15')

Of course as I've said before the violence in movies like Pulp Fiction and Sin City is so cartoony and in it's own way so delibetary postmodern that it's hard to see how any child with a grasping of Irony could take seriously. Plus, I'm not fond of giving out high ratings.

IIRC, all of the ones I've seen were accurately given an 'R' rating.

No, I don't know remember that scene so it clearly wasn't anything shocking. A good rule of thumb I was using actually was "Would you be fine watching this movie with your parents?" If so, it's PG-13. Considering I actually DID once watch Garden State with my mom this kind of sums it up. I certainly can't say I'd do the same for Reservoir Dogs?

How is Pulp Fiction cartoony? And Reservoir Dogs certainly isn't. Probably some of the most brutally real violence I've seen in a movie.

Which ones would that be?

Off the top of my head, Pulp Fiction, Resevoir Dogs were rightfully 'R' rated.  American Pie should have been PG-13.  Both Kill Bill movies were f--king awful, so I'll decline further comment.
