I'm asking that we have a moment of "silence" where we all just post a blank post (just a space or period or the smallest amount that it'll let you post) between 8:30 and 9:30.

I'll be posting at 8:46, coinciding with Central Michigan's moment of silence.

I don't see how a memorial is going to help anyone. It won't bring back the people who died that terrible day. Instead, it would be better to figure out how we were caught unaware that day and do something to rectify the situation so it can't happen again. To this day, the much needed security measures at airports and nuclear facilities are still lacking. The nation's ports are also lack the necessary security. The events of 9/11 should be a lesson of what happens when our government ignores the warnings of its own intelligence community.

Also, instead of a memorial, I think it would be better to rebuild the towers for commerce again (as a way to show the world we are undaunted), only this time, not so high that they are dangerous. (The original towers were built with the foreknowledge that they might get hit [accidentally] by a plane one day. They weren't built to withstand that type of accident.) There were designs problems with the old towers, too. The stairs were all located in the same place instead of having two sets at opposite ends, which would have made escape easier. Guilliani also had emergency supplies, including barrels of gasoline, located in one of the towers. Obviously, events have shown us that is not a good idea.
