What parts of the UK would you annex to the States? (I've split England up)

Let Northern Ireland join Ireland, and the rest join the USA.

Let Northern Ireland join the Republic of Ireland, have Wales and Scotland become independent nations, and we will take England, including Cornwall (i.e. the Southwest).

No thank you.

If you included us btw we would have 6 or 7 house seats and 9 Electoral Votes. So you better pay attention. Voting patterns in the Liffey Valley would become all important. Tongue

If we annex the U.K, what happens to the royal family?  Perhaps they could be banished to a small sheep farm near Lerwick?

No -we banish them to some tiny, insignificant municipality on the mainland, like Andorra, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, or Monaco. Tongue

"Oh.  I'm sorry.  Would you like a nice cup of tea with that swift kick in the ass?"

But we don't actually want to be an independent nation.

Oh, who are you kidding. Surely you'd love it if Paisley, McGuinness et al, become power brokers in Dublin. Tongue

There's another Irish redistricting project for you t work on. Grin

Voting patterns in the Liffey Valley would become all important. Tongue

Liffey Valley? No way, the Bushes and Clintons and whatnot would all be out on the stump in Carrick-on-Shannon and Dingle and Lisburn. Tongue

Or maybe Corsica, Malta, Cyprus, and Sardinia -they would make fine residences for Her Royal Majesty and anyone else who belongs to the House of Windsor (and by extension, the House of Hanover).

Ah yes, Dingle.. I can see it now: Member of the house of representatives Jackie Healy Rae (R-IE) - the debates between himself and Pelosi would be interesting to watch. Tongue

You will have independence whether you like it or not, even if it comes nearly 800 years after you last lost it.  Tongue

Tough luck...apparantly.
But there's always other options...
The United Kingdom of Scotland and Wales?
The Celtic Confederation?
Apply to be a UN protectorate?

All wonderful options, I'm sure you'll agree... Wink

Ever heard of self-determination? Cuts both ways.

Wales was never an independent state. And most of it was ruled by the Anglo-Normans long before the fall of the Kingdom of Gwynedd in 1284.

Regardless, most people in Wales are as much descended from 19th century (in the sense of the long 19th century) economic migrants (19th century Wales was like a miniature America in some respects) as from people who lived in Wales in the 13th century.

Oh, do stop with your history and factual mumbo jumbo.  Wales will be independent and scones will be served at the ceremony.  And they will be triangle-shaped.  None of that hexagon crap.  Do you understand?  Good.

Connacht is smaller than Wyoming (by population).

True, but 503,083 (as of 2006) is enough for a State as far as I'm concerned.

It'd be more appropriate to admit Ireland as a single state.

True; I think we'd only have about 7 or 8 Congressional districts anyway; so it's not like it's neccesary to split it up to keep it from becoming more powerful or anything like that..

If anything, splitting it up so that it has 8 Senators instead of 2 Senators would increase Ireland's power.

And all of a sudden I could find myself represented by Senators Paisley and McGuinness. Cry

Fortunately, annexation would stop of all the silly NI infighting.

Henry VIII may have expressed similar sentiments.
