and you won't find a back room in their video stores.. because they leave that filth to the Sin Cities, a.k.a Minneapolis/St. Paul.

*rolls over laughing*

The nearest video store to my parents' house with a back room is roughly...3 blocks away.

And the nearest gas station that sells gay and hardcore porn magazines is...also roughly 3 blocks away.

Hell there was a video store with a giant porn collection across the street from my high school!

well brtd, i have to be honest with you...

ive lived in the north and ive lived in the south.

i cant see where the north is any more sophisticated.

unless you are going to tell me that nd > ma.   which may be possible, actually.  i wouldnt be surprised.

ive been shocked in my 2 years in mass.  all i can say is....police state!

I've never been to Massachusetts but I bet it's a LOT better than ND. But neither state has any of that backwards fundie crap the south is full of. Anyone proposing teaching creationism in ND would be laughed out of the state.

Yeah, it was a mistake to consider the Dakotas part of the bible belt, but that entire abortion fiasco and the ID thing in Kansas will give me time to get over. Maybe there are places where the bible belt ebbs and flows? (Missouri and Ohio River Valley maybe). Rural Pennsylvania is too far disconnected from the rest of bible belt, but I would consider Ohio/Indy south of the Interstate that goes through Indy and Columbus (I-76?) to be.

The abortion thing was VOTED DOWN, something that probably wouldn't happen in Mississippi. As for the ID thing in Kansas, they voted out the majority on their state school board that implemented it and I think it's already been reversed.

Yes, by a smaller margin than California did.

I think the reason the marriage ban was so close was due to some poor wording... Besides gay marriage, it also banned civil unions, domestic partnerships, and any other "quasi-marital" relationship. No one, including the drafters of the amendment, knew what a "quasi-marital" relationship was, leading to speculation that it could be interpretted to affect just about anyone, such as people living together simply as roommates, or other valid contracts between two people, etc.

harry you should just understand that brtd hates the south and southerners.

but as a southerner myself, i know that mississippi couldnt be any worse than north fing dakota.

Um, North Dakota has gay bars. Try finding those in Mississippi. Also no school prayer, no one b!tches about the school system teaching evolution, no dry counties, very liberal gambling laws (my dad used to have a job as a black jack dealer at a local bar. Bars are allowed to have black jack and poker gambling there. Doubt that's the case in Mississippi.) and a lottery. ND also has more strip clubs per capita and more "scene" things and people (which isn't saying much of course, but MS is literally basically a giant "scene" black hole. Yet one of the hottest new bands out there is from ND [and one of my high school buddies is roommates with one of the members]). And Fargo is larger than any city in MS except Jackson, and Bismarck is larger than any except Jackson and Gulfport, so ND isn't even necessarily more rural (at least not in the places where the people I know live)

I'd certainly rather live in neither, but ND is better than MS.

Although hurt by Katrina, MS still has one of the biggest gambling industries in the country. Also, a simple Yahoo! search reveals that MS does have  several gay bars (not just in Jackson, but also in Meridian Hattiesburg, Tupelo, and Biloxi. There is no school prayer in MS (or any other state) because this would be unconstitutional. Nice try though

Yeah, they have a few riverboat casinos right? Those would probably be equivalent to Reservation casinos. But do they allow gambling in normal bars.

Uh, look what Harry just said. Sure it's unconstitutional, but that hasn't stopped many other things in the past.

And I'm still very amused by the idea that it's difficult to buy porn in the Dakotas.

Not really riverboats.  They're more like buildings on the river or gulf coast.  They don't leave dock, and most aren't capable of it.  Barbour has actually let them come 300 feet (I think that's the right number) onto land, after promising he never would, much to the ire of his base.
But Tunica, MS, is considered to be the #3 gambling town in America, for the record.

I believe that's some sort of fluke that caused that and the state is too scared to shut them down because of the revenue it provides, right?

But Mississippi would never allow a lottery. Now for a lottery in ND:

Mississippi doesn't have a lottery for the same reason Nevada doesn't have one, the gambling industry is too powerful. I don't think you get the magnitude of gambling in the state. Before Katrina it was behind only Nevada as America's gambling capital. It has fallen a little short of New Jersey because of the massive destruction of Katrina, but there are still nine casinoes in Tunica County alone. The state lets counties decide for themselves if they want waterfront gambling. Some counties have opted for it, others against. Mississippi is mostly a very conservative state, but you should check out your facts before you make erroneous assumptions.
