Acording to this Rasumussen survey, 56% of Americans said the events of the campaigns thus far have been "annoying" and "a waste of time."   Only 29% found them to be "interesting and informative."    Also, 72% of those surveyed would favor a proposal that would shorten the nominating season substantially.

Seriously.  I know that Bush is a lame duck but there really isn't any need for the campaigning to begin so early.  If New Hampshire and Iowa weren't so bitchy about being first we wouldn't be having this problem either.

What difference would it make?  If the primaries started in March rather than January, things would only slide by two months.  There was already intensive coverage of this election as far back as January of this year, so we'd still have the bulk of 2007 filled with '08 campaign news regardless.
