New Hampshire U.S. Senate candidate Katrina Swett (D) "will announce she is ending her campaign on Friday to support former Governor Jeanne Shaheen's newly formed bid to defeat freshman Republican Senator John E. Sununu," James Pindell reports.

Portsmouth Mayor Steve Marchand, who had said he would drop out if Shaheen entered the race, ended his campaign last week. Dartmouth professor and former astronaut Jay Buckey remains in the race.

You're the only person, of any political persuasion, who'd rather have the incompetent Katrina Swett as Senator than Jeanne Shaheen.

Oh, I think Dick Swett would rather have Katrina as Senator, and yes, I only made this post so I could once again insert the name 'Dick Swett' into civilized discussion.

I don't particularly care for Swett. I just wish an anti-war candidate would step up to Shaheen. She is another Hillary (which sucks in my view).

One benefit of this development could be additional resources for other states.  If the Democrats can put this race in the bag by September (possible, though unlikely) they'll have more funds to spend on toss-ups like Nebraska, Oregon, Minnesota, and maybe a few late forming races like NC.

Dumb question: are there any independents or third party candidates running in this race?
